Since everyone's talking about the Racerhead this week over at the RacerX site, let's get into that a little. DC says they plan on making several changes to the AMA Nationals.
What would YOU like to see the NPG do to better the nationals?
Here's a few ideas I came up with -
1. Run 250F's on Saturday, 450's on Sunday. Practice and qualify the 250F's Saturday morning and afternoon, then start the main motos at 2pm. Run a moto, take a 1-hour intermission, then run the second moto. Same as 450's on Sunday. Start practice in the morning on Sunday, run qualifying, then fire off the motos at 2pm.
2. Allow the riders/teams to market and merchandise themselves to fans how they want. I believe I've heard recently that Ryan Clark, Butler Bros. and a few others are finally doing this. The merchandising being controlled by one guy (who happens to be the head of the NPG) just does not seem right.
3. Spectator seating and viewing has improved over the years. Would be nice to see those improvements to continue.
4. No alcohol at the events. We've all read and heard stories of the problems caused by drunken and rowdy fans (and the occasional rider). Easiest fix, ban all alcohol on the premises at each round.

Make Sunday 2 45 min. + 2 lap motos for a Run-What-You-Brung class (all factory and satellite riders, no displacement limit".
Not as many fans will come to both days of a two day event. that would be hell on teams that have 450 and 250 riders.
The Shop
Luxon 4-Post Bar Mounts
$189.95 - $239.95
DeCal Works Huge Plastic Inventory of UFO and Polisport kits.
I like the way the motos are run now (for many years now) but I would also like to see some kind of support class for true privateteers. I'm sure they could squeeze 2 more shorter motos in on Sunday.
At Glen Helen, they do have a family only section, but I think they still allow alcohol. I would think an Alcohol only section, would be appropriate..No alcohol among the masses, if you want to drink, stay in the play pen.
Of course, rules don't apply to me...just everyone else.
1= I don't think you would get as many people both days....Travel-$$-Work would play a part in that.
4= Maybe add a family section but no way ban the drinks.
Pit Row
2. Autograph sessions and rider "meet and greets" are to be held on the merchandising midway. This will increase exposure of the merchandising trailers, help a rider/team increase sales and frees up crowded space in the paddock (pit) area.
3. Natural berms should be built along the track sides, preferably tiered, in order to allow better viewing for those not standing at the fence line.
4. Improved sound and spectator communication boards in a modular system that can be easily broken down and packed into a semi-trailer and hauled from race to race. Speakers should include several speaker arrays that can be hung from cranes and/or scaffolding/scissor lift which can also be used for TV camera platforms. Additional spectator information should be several scoring pylons placed throughout the property showing the running order in live time via timing loops placed throughout the track.
5. Diamondvision (large video) screens (at least two) placed in areas with limited viewing.
6. More hard bathrooms for women only, or at minimum, many trailer potties that are kept clean, for ladies only.
7. Sponsor/VIP tents with hard floors and A/C. Those with the most money won't be hardcore MX Fans, just people with money. Treat them like they expect to be treated at any other motorsport event...don't make them and their spouses muddy up their nice shoes...that's just stupid.
8. Better and more visible security, in the parking lots as well.
9. Shade, shade, shade....it's pretty damn hot in the summer, make your customers more comfortable by providing shade which can be easily done and you can even sell it for additional income.
How? Shade sail cloth. Triangular sail cloth strung between poles, which can even be raised, lowered and tilted for various sun and weather conditions.
They can be paid for through advertising...print sponsor logo on them
See example below:
10. Predetermined wash bay areas outside of or away from the paddock area to keep it from getting muddy and keep it a more professional appearance
11. Play areas for kids. Many kids get board throughout the day standing at the fence in the sun, they need an outlet. Build a couple play areas and even offer "child check"
and that's to start....
2) quit dreaming that people know there is a race in town and advertise the event locally.....oops i lready said that!
3) everything dave said is a good start
4) open up your checkbook for 3 years and make an investment in the future.

This rule is actually in place. However, AMA (Specifically John Ayers) did not follow through with his part, of providing the washers. I built a wash area, and it was never used.
Not part of the AMA
