Baggett jumps over Roczen.

Jobe jumping over Malherbe.

That was the FIRST thing that popped into my mind when Baggett launched that jump.

even their body position is eerily identical.

That British guy needs to paint Blake too. Rob.

Hey Dude. Thanks for the heads up, would love to re-capture that moment at Freestone on canvas but need someone to commission the original.
Anybody seriously interested in having that as an original painting please email me at robakinsey@hotmail.com and I will work out a great price, plus ask for permission from Lebig to base a painting on his photo.

Here's the one I did of Georges Jobe jumping over Malherbe at Hawkstone Park 500cc GP. Alan Bott commissioned the original, then decided to give it to Georges. It hangs in his hospital bedroom where he is receiving chemo, bone marrow treatment for his Leukemia.

Dang, that is weird how they are both positioned about the same on the bike.

What struck me as well was the very similar sky. Not often we get blue skies here in UK. The GP race was in July though!

I've sent a link to this thread to Georges in hospital. I'll gladly post any comments.
One thing we must remember is the Jobe/Malherbe jump was 28 years ago in 1984, way before SX tracks, riders jumping skills and bike suspension had developed to what it is today.
Taking nothing away from Blake's ballsy move, but it puts into perspective how special Jobe's jump was back in the day!

It would be cool to see where Jobe was going to land. It looks like he is just launching into the air with no landing in sight. Yep, 500s could get a lot of distance, with very liimited take offs.

My dear lord. I would say that is one hell of a freeload, but I don't think that does any justice to what he is doing there.

I wish the guy in the yellow shirt would take one step to the left. As for the pics, it takes a certain type of mentality to huck oneself off of a jump that big and hope for the best. Mr. Baggett should shorten his name to just "Bag" because his has to be huge in order to hold those balls.

Received this email from Georges Jobe today in hospital. Sounds like he's going through a real rough time, but fighting as always!

Rob,
I came out of sterilised room today after 30 days, terrible!

Nice picture!, it took 28 years for one guy to do what I did .

Part of history.

Thanks, and regards,

Georges

Georges has link to this thread, so please post any words of encouragement here on Vital and he will get to read them.
Believe me, it really helps him to hear other people pulling for him to recover!
thanks,
Rob

I think the barrel distortion in that lens distorts the perspective quite a bit in that pic. Vurb posted the best pic I've seen.

George passed away today.

He was 51, and 5 X World Champ.

That picture above is worth a thousand words about the kind of rider he was, in his prime.
