Just curious, if you guys were to buy a 2012 250f or two, what bike would you choose? I have been a Honda guy my whole life and im getting back into the sport, my last race was 2010 Unadilla pro weeked in the expert class and i blew my head gasket... dad wasnt really in it anymore but i have finally talked him back into his senses and were racing again... im 18 now so still young enough lol. Im really liking the new yami's but want some input from some people who have been in it the last two years

but on topic, yamis are slow but reliable.. my 2010 crf 250 is fast and completely reliable..my only bike i have and i am never worried about it breaking on me

lol noob? ive been racing for 9 years i just got out right befor the EFI was introduced so I wanted to know if it really mattered cause yami hasnt switched yet... and not spoiled lol it was eat or race... we raced. my last three bikes were cr144, cr125 and crf250..(08) favorite bike i have ever had... so prolly going to have to stay true to honda...

I have always ridden Suzuki's. They are really good bikes - in terms of both performance and reliability - despite what some say about them. The current generation RMZ250 has won a lot of magazine shootouts too.

Realistically, the "big five" are all as good as each other. Pick the one you like or can get the best deal on.

Actually, all the bikes are very good.

Anyway, I have a 2012 Kaw and love it. Awesome bike.
That said, I ride with a bunch of new Suzuki's and they seem to be excellent bikes as well. Plus, nothing turns like a zook.

Why limit yourself to a 4-stroke. If you have to I would go with the RMZ. However, I think you should try a

2012 KTM 150SX

Expert class?

Well, you need to bring a Howitzer to a gunfight. Meaning, race a KTM250SX in the 250 class.

Love the 150 KTM, but at a recent Pro Am, I watched one struggle with a really talented rider on it. Just not quite enough balls to run with 250 two strokes and built-up fours.

Heck yeah, a 250sx would no doubt keep up with and pass any 250F, but those bike are pretty f-in fast (almost too much). If you can handle the power, it's obviously the 250 of choice. The YZ would be my second choice, if you're going that route.

Buy a new KTM 250SX or Yamaha YZ250. They are lighter and have more power than the 250F's. They are cheaper to maintain and easier to work on than the 250F's.

Didn't that 250F engine repair teach you anything? Lol. Just kidding.

Plus you're just going to look and sound a hell of a lot cooler ripping around the track on a two stroke.

The Yamaha is outdated even before it's unboxed! Old (but proven) technology ... If they make a EFI Yamaha this year, then you'll lose massive money if you buy a 2012 YZF. I would stick with the Honda (and I ride a Kawasaki)

Don't go with a Yamaha 250F for reasons stated above.... go with either the Kawi or the Honda.

Many people prefer the carb to the EFI. Not only does it weigh less, but is proven tech. Any 250F is going to blow more quickly if revved to where the most power is 10k - 13k rpms, but if you (or your dad) have the money, then go for it. Like someone said earlier, you could go with a 2013 2-stroke for more power and possibly cheaper than the 250F (especially in the long run). Don't listen to these people who say that a YZ250 is outdated just becasue of the plastic. The aluminum frame and SSS suspension is the best-to-date, even though many prefer the pre-2005 steel frame (which KTM still uses, since it works).

I rode a Kawi 250f two weeks ago and I found it anemic and very nervous! Maybe I am spoiled with the 450 power but that bike pulled decent but signed off pretty quick ahd once it picked up speed it started wobbling all over. I remember my 05 250f being way stronger at the bottom and more planted but things have changed for sure.

You know what, yes I personally recommend the RM-Z250. BUT, pick a damn color! All these bikes are worthy competitors. The bikes are so damn good these days I don't think you can go wrong with any one of them (within the big 5).

As you can see this forum is filled with people who don't ride^^^. A 250 2-stroke doesn't have a chance against a 250f in lap times. Besides the fact that 250f's are giggle machines. Power doesn't mean a damn thing if you get tired and can't control it. 250f's are damn near the perfect bike.......

I went with Honda this year. Came off of a 2009 Kawi and it was a great bike. You won't go wrong with a Honda but the rest of them are great bikes also. Find a local dealer that will take care of you and start riding.............

EFI in the 250 is bullshit. I have a '10 KXF and I think I'll switch to the 450 because I can't get to the idea that my new bike will be slower than my old one...
