It is about the fans and seeing great racing, that's why the sport exists...
One solution I have for the lapper problem are radios. Slip is right, the blue flag isn't consistent. If the AMA could tell a guy via radio that the leader is 2 or 3 turns behind him, I think that would really help.

As a photographer, I never want to interfere with the outcome of a race. And I'm sure the guys who are lining up on the gate aren't thinking, "Hmm...whose race can I screw up today?"
At Hangtown he just found a real shitty spot to catch you guys.
Just seems some of these internet Jackie's, such as Crush, are actually "never have been"s.
Stewart appears to be much better at getting around riders than Dungey is, and in no way should any rider make it easier for Dungey. Dungey just needs to get a bit more creative in finding new lines just as Stewart does. It is proving to be the difference between first and second.
1. Make the tracks longer, and the time on the track shorter until no one can possibly be lapped.
2. Do it the way we have been doing it since the sport began...like JT$ said: "The
most dangerous thing a person can do when being lapped is to erratically change his line. Predictability of the lapped rider is always going to benefit both riders' safety and as well as being the most efficient"
If the local go-kart track is equipped with this technology, maybe we could do it to the bikes on the AMA circuit. As riders are about to become an obstruction to the race leaders (getting lapped), an attentive race official with a conscience and a reasonable head on his shoulders could retard their ignition. Of course, the official would need to make sure he didn't 'zap' somebody's bike on the face of a jump or something, but perhaps it could be done safely and effectively.
Agree with the post above about riders racing for 20th place. That's a national point and place worth racing for, IMO. But with such a technology in place, an official could 'zap' all riders about to be lapped at the same time and for the same amount of time until the leaders pass safely.
Just a thought. Perhaps not the solution, but momma told me never to come to her with a problem unless I was working on a fix.
Pit Row
It's a very simple fix. The top ten guys run these bad boys bolted on their triple clamps. It will literally scare the fucker right off his bike.
One other thing I noticed was that Stewart didn't really care RD was there.....he was just going to keep riding his own race until RD decided to do something......and then come right back after it if he needed to.....and force the pass if needed to!
If both these two guys stay healthy this whole season.......it'll be a great series , because I don't see either one of them giving an inch.
Can you imagine the battles we would have if RV , Reed and canard were out there? It would be incredible.
BTW.....don't dis-credit the lappers! Those 20th-40th place guys are what keep this sport alive weather you believe it or not! I think you would be surprised just " How fast " those dudes are in the back!
Anyway - major crashes have happened from people trying to get out of the way, as you have stated. HOLD your line and they will get around if they are that much quicker they are lapping .... Hell even practicing with Pros at private tracks you hold your line they will bump you or get around you if they want too...
At the speeds everyone is travelling today it takes a milli second for someone to panic and get of our their line, and then the dude is blamed for making the fast dude crash..
Bottom line hold your fucking line..
DAMN LAPPERS!!!
