Nah, KTM 250 sx.

I would say a Yamaha. They are more reliable than those KTMs.

Two stroke - I would have to go with KTM 250SX. I'm actually considering making that my next bike. I currently ride an 08 YZ450F and like it but I'm just ready for something different to re-spark my interest in riding. I've been hitting the mountain bike more often than the dirt bike lately. . .

Why the 11? Something better about it?

If I'm being forced to only consider new give me a '12 Honda 250AF. After actually riding my buddy's '12 250SX I am no longer interested in KTMs. After decades of riding the slimmer Honda's I could not stand the ergos of the KTM or the weight distribution via the peg position. While those are things I could adjust to I don't feel the KTM is much of a leap forward over my '02 CR for my personal riding style, and certainly not when considering price tag.

I bought a 12 ktm 250 but if I were to get another one it would most likely be a yz125.

'11 looks better with the transparent tank...the 250 is more fun.

I would have to agree. I rode a '12 250 sx last weekend for the first time, and was afraid if I rode it I would have to go out and buy one after considering all the amazing things I've heard about them on here. However, I did not really find the bike to be much better over all than my '03 CR 250. The front end washed out really easily, and the bike did not feel nearly as stable as my CR. My CR does have revalved Pro Action suspension so I'm sure that helped. My bike also has some motor mods, and the KTM with a pipe didn't feel any more powerful than my bike. The experience made me feel pretty damn good about my 9 year old bike!

For me it would either be the 2012 Husky CR or WR125 or a 2012 Gas Gas 200 Racing (when they finally make it over here).

There is a new 2009 CR and WR 125 in the Austin area for $3499.00 each. Not sure how much they've changed since then.

I've been debating this too. The KTM is cool-looking, but I've never ridden one.
The YZ is so bland with the lack of changes and the BNG every year. But I have a feeling the YZ will be more dependable.

Or I could just rebuild my '04 RM250 again.

What you just said about rebuilding your RM speaks volumes about the sad state of the dirt bike industry. They've lost their following. Overpriced, overweight, over complicated.....they've lost touch with reality. Honda can spend millions on advertising and still sell a full blown CBR250R street bike for 4 grand but a stripped down bare bones 250 dirtbike is nearly double. If the dirtbike was 4 grand, and there is no reason it shouldn't be, they would sell plenty more. Oh, and not buttraping their customers for outlandish "freight and setup" fee's that dealer employee's tell me the dealer gets credited back for.

My wallet has already spoken, '12 YZ125.

Regarding the pic posted by the OP, is it me or KTM needs to update their looks a little?

Yep, KTM needs to definitely update their looks. The stodgy front fender needs to go. They need a slightly new design of the rear fender and side panels. Just my opinion. Same for the YZ, although the YZ has a better shape all around, even being umpteen years old.

If I was flush with cash, the SH 250AF would also be on the top of my list.

Don't really want or need the linkage that got added on to the 2012. The pds always worked well and was simpler for my slow butt on my 525. The 11 got the new frame, a six speed box and was lighter and with a bit more power with a cleaner pathway from the air box to carb. The 2012's a wicked nice bikes though.

But the reality is riding seems to have gotten away from me in the last three months. I hoping to have the energy to shoot motos this summer; riding seems a bit of a stretch.

Go with the RM rebuild. With a fresh engine and suspenders it will outrun and outturn any of those new ones at a fraction of the cost.

just for your info, that full blown cbr250 has 23 horsepower, crappy nonadjustable suspension and brakes

in reality its basically a street version of a xr250, the thing is barely meant to go above 70 mph, to the only thing sporty about the cbr250 is the body
