#24. If all of this speculation is true, Metty might be the one most effected by it. I know people say you make your own luck but it seems like that kids whole career has played him on the losing end over and over. I hope he kills it this summer outdoors.

Wasn't he the dude that YoT made ride the YZ125 in SX when everyone else was on 250f's? He was the only 125 out there and getting crushed every weekend but he never complained.

How can JS riding a zook affect him? In any case he gets the same bike he has prepared for the outdoors all season long, and now he might get a really fast teammate to learn from. IF JS rides a zook that is

I mean that he was the lone rider now he's the "second" rider and with Suzukis recent financial cut backs, if JS does well, I can't see Metty keeping his ride come contract time. I just think he's better than that.

Yes Metty was the last factory supported 125 rider. That was back when Yamaha redesigned their 125 to make it faster and lighter. He did well on it.

To say he's getting screwed or losing here I don't agree with. He has always had a top tier ride without ever winning anything. Will he be overshadowed? Sure, but he still has a factory ride and the same bike that has won championships under RC and Dungey.

To me the big loser is Yamaha. They based their ad campaign on Stewart. I thought it was pretty ironic during the SX last night I was watching James try and sell me a Yamaha when he will be confirmed with Suzuki tomorrow.

Sorry, but Metty has always been a second rider. He's just been on a team without a first rider.

That's the brutal truth of motocross - pure riding ability is 50% of the equation, and no matter how tough you are, no matter how hard you try, if you don't have that pure ability to go ungodly fast, you're destined for second rider status at best.

I would say that the biggest loser of this deal is JGR. But then again they dug their own grave. In my opiinion they shoulld have switched brands when they had the chance. James was their only shot at a championship. We all know damn well that JGR willl never sign a championship caliber rider again, as long as they are with yamaha anyways. Does anyone see a Barcia, Roczen, RV, , etc risking their career on a yamaha like Chad and James did? I would say all the pro riders should take this as a lesson learned.

There are only so many spots available. Maybe more top tier guys graduating to the big bikes than true factory spots available. I could see a Tomac or Wilson maybe signing with JGR simply because its all that's left.

It really is too bad that JGR didn't go with another bike. It would be interesting to see the terms and conditions of their agreement with Yamaha. I can't see much money going to JGR since they're doing their own development on the bike. The pre-season rumor was them going to Suzuikis. Maybe they wouldn't J-Bone have his own Oakley deal.Blush

It's not the Yamaha. Its the combination of the Yamaha being a different kind of bike that needs a very analytical rider who's willing to spend lots and lots of testing time and is willing to try anything; and a rider who has neither of those characteristics. James wants certain things in his setup and he doesn't want to argue about it. Larry Brooks expounded on this several times. The Yamaha isn't at fault and James isn't at fault, but they aren't going to make a good combination.

I think the guys with the most dissapointed looks on their faces are the guys in the JGR raceshop who spent all that time trying to make the Yamaha James friendly.

That tank/shroud thing, different motor mounts and Im sure about 6 million other things. The JGR raceshop earned their paycheck I think.

Hopefully all that work they did was at least in someway able to propel Milsaps to his late season charge.

It my not be THE Yamaha, but it certainly is Yamaha.

The 09 Honda was the worst bike that season. Everyone was on record as hating it but Shorty, but Honda rolled up their sleeves and figured it out. As long as Yamaha isn't willing to do the same, their going to have a turd on their hands.

I don't think we know yet.

James loses a lot of $ and a chance at Nascar.
JGR loses a guy they thought could win a Championship at some point.
Yamaha could look bad to some people if James does better on a Suzuki.

The only thing that helped Davi with this late season charge is so many people hurt. Davi has alway been a 6th or 7th place rider with the top guys. Without 4 or 5 of the top guys then hes a 2nd place rider.

If stewart wins on Suzuki Yamaha will be the big loser because it will kill off all slaes of YZ450 assbackward engine concept even if its not the problem. After watching a couple of the YZ450 go pyscho last night it reminds me of the TM 400 Suzuki. Dont remember who it was but one of the Yamaha riders I think it was Faith landed completely sideways and then on the tuff block DOH!

Stewart by far unless he kills it on Suzuki. If he keeps crashing and being inconsistent then it is all on him I think.

I hope you're fishing but I have a feeling you aren't. Chad did damn well on a Yamaha... Excuse me if I'm wrong but I don't think he ever even raced the current (supposedly terrible) Yamaha configuration so your point has no validation. James seemed to do quite well on it as well when HE wasn't making the mistakes. Was his last crash the bikes fault that he over jumped onto that table? What about Daytona last year - whiskey throttle out of the corner off the jump? Want me to continue? The problem I see with James is the brain to right hand connection. No, I'm not a James hater - in fact I love watching him ride and I hope he finds peace wherever he lands.

The guys that finished second and third in points may disagree with your "risking their career" comment. According to Vital, the KTM and Yamaha are no good right?

To answer the original question, I don't think anyone lost. James / JGR got a ton of press whether they won, crashed or no showed. Metcalfe will benefit from riding / testing with james.

James going to Suzuki might actually help Metcalf tremendously. Like Sunhouse said, he gets to observe and learn from Stewart and with everyone focusing on James and the weight of carrying the entire Suzuki team off of his shoulders a bit, Brett can quietly get down to the business of racing.

I think this is a make it or break it year for Metcalf, so let's hope he goes really fast outdoors.

Yes, because James will have Metcalfe move in with him and ride at his house all the time. Metcalfe will be able to observe James at the races same as everyone else.

The biggest loser as I see it is Albrecht because he spoke honestly about the situation and got reemed for it. He's been all but hung out on a limb as some sort of dope who is completely out of the loop after Coy Gibbs "corrected" his comments in the Cycle News interview.

The other biggest loser is Yamaha, unless James does shitty on the Suzuki as well.

When has Metty ever been a '1st rider' in the 450 class? If anything, might take some of the weight off his shoulders. He was only a first rider because Suzuki couldn't afford a bigger team anyway.

They haven't changed the Yamaha sense Reed rode it?

You have very low reasoning skills.
5/6/2012 10:20am
not JGR. They unloaded a rider who didn't want to try any longer and likely freed up a ton of money by doing it. I'm sure they are all incredibly disappointed in how James' season turned out, but Milsaps had the best season of his career (on big bikes) and they have their best season finish to date.

and I don't care if Milsaps only got 2nd b/c Reed, Dungey, Canard, blah, blah, blah got hurt. That's part of the sport and Milsaps consistency paid of this season....just like when Dungey won his championships.

I have to agree with you here!

I have not really given much thought to the YZ450 being at fault excuses being thrown around, but, Last night dont tell me Izzi's wreck didnt look very stewartesque... I even texted my buddy with the same thing.

I dont know Mudflaps seems to do well on it, but his style isnt to really charge as hard as JS , and Izzi was probably pushing himself past the limits when the crash occured.... shit maybe I need to go get a mechanical engineering degree so I can figure it out Smile

Shawn and others have already said it. Yamaha is the biggest loser. Their reputation at the top level isn't anything to be proud of at the moment.

Millsaps did well under the circumstances (injuries), no doubt. Anything less and he'd be undeserving of his ride.

Aren't the rules on bike setups different across the pond?
