Cooper was killing it all weekend in the vintage classes, the Marty Tripes 100cc class and on his RM500. Amazing how these fast guys never seem to slow down. Here he is out front on 4 inches of suspension showing how to smooth things out. Cell phone video so forgive the quality. Feet up on the pegs through the berm and running a wheelie into the next corner.....every lap. Craziness.

Crazy Coop story from the weekend. Fridays cross country was a total mudfest. It rained half the night and most of the day. Guy comes around about half way through the first lap with is front wheel dragging the fender and his fork spring in his hand. He tosses it to me and I run and grab another one of our buddies. He goes and pulls the fork cap off of one of his backup bikes and we ride over to the other side of the track. When guy comes and stops for gas we start putting the fork back together and he didn't want to stop long enough for us to fix it. We talked him into it and he ended up taking off about 20 seconds behind the leader. He went on to have a pretty bad crash also but one by about a minute.

Hey Newman, do you ever come to the vintage race in Seminole, Oklahoma? A guy name Jeff Simon puts it on.

The 100cc race was the race of the weekend! Guy Cooper 50 years old, Jim Gibson 55 years old and a young kid were going at it the entire race. They were side by side, nose to tail, 3 wide, hanging off the fender and wide open the whole race.
I feel pretty good that Cooper, Burke and Jorski were the guys that beat me in the + 50 Expert. I am just glad that Trampas is not 50 yet.

Newmann, nice pic. How did the bike do? Do you have a lot of adjustments (suspension) to make? Does he ride a "moden" bike too? If so, how does he compare them?

Cooper is my favorite rider of all time.
Hangen it out ALL the way around the track, every jump, every berm, every whoop, every lap.

Cooper hasn't changed a bit since his younger days outriding people with more talent on better machines. He was and still is one of the most friendliest riders out there (not necessarily on the track though) and was always willing to talk with anybody as well as help anyone he could. One of these days I need to take the time to scan some of the multitude of images I have of him riding starting with his long-haired days on Kawasaki's that were always beat to crap, through his Honda years, and then on to his days at Suzuki.

How'd it do? Well, it didn't seize. And when it comes to me and air cooled 125's that's always my first hurdle! Smile Rear suspension worked well, the Work's Performance piggybacks are adjustable and comp/reb don't seem to have a real major effect considering the range of adjustment. Gotta study up on those a little more to get the most out of them. Fox forks up front looked good on the track but again the dampening system isn't modern by any means. We are trying different oils first and going forward. It's set up with only 10 1/2 inches of travel since he isn't too tall. It's probably the best looking 79 CR125 I've ever seen as far as how the suspension setup looks. Stock they just look goofy with the front end way up in the air and the 23 in. wheel.
