so what you are saying is the year that few raced the out doors and the rest of the field was injured this guy was capable of second place.

Sweet! That settles it pay him a couple Million and give him factory equipment 9th place here we come! I bet the sponsors line up for this!

Just like this year in supercross, injuries are part of the sport, you never know who has podium potential at the end of the year. He was top 3 in points 2 years in a row. What up and comer who isnt signed to a team has any shot of a podium or even one moto win in 2012?
You are right he can only race the guys that line up. The thing is he still can't BEAT those guys and he is on factory equipment.

I don't follow the amateur scene real close but I can guarantee there are a few dudes that if they were given factory equipment could finish as good as Short. They would not only come cheaper they have unlimited potential and create a buzz for your sponsors. Short is a known commodity.

The 'factory' honda bikes are leased to outside teams like 22 -- not sure what the cost is, though.

Really? I thought Reed even said on Pulpmx that it was Hondas bike and that might possibly complicate things as far as signing a rider.

This L&mc deal was screwy from the start. I just hope Sjort was compensated for his work and isn't another rider to get screwed.

Not that this has much to do with the sponsor situation, but MC never seemed that interested in the whole deal. In every interview I saw, he didn't seem to know much about what was going on with the team/sponsors/etc. It was like he was just along for the ride and didn't have much emotional investment. I may be wrong, that was the vibe I got.

I hope Shorty ends up somewhere for the summer. He goes fast outdoors!

He has a possible offer from JGR.

one of the best quotes ever regarding sponsorship was from Bill and Jerry West, one of the original SX promoters........thier take on it was this........"well boys, we're all robbin from the same train"..........classic and still goin strong it seems!!
Who would want invest a dime with Brooks when he alienates the star riders on his teams?

I couldn't agree more re: MC's involvement. When I first heard MC was going to have a team I assumed it would bring a "cool" factor to rival PC and TLD. The first time the Craigslist looking photos of the race bike were released, I realized this (former?) effort is more LB than MC.

Short has been pretty banged up the past 2 years and has never had winning caliber speed.

Reed is running a team like it should be ran. If he can't get a contender he may as well stay home. If these riders knew they couldn't get a ride unless they killed it out there maybe there would be more contenders and better racing?
That is why I would not have hired Townley , I think he will crash out and end up hurt in the first few races.

ROFL Huckster, ROFL....
When Townley LAPS Shorty in a national this year can you please take that back?
Shorty seems like a bloody nice guy, don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to rag on him, however half the reason he still gets rides is because he is a PR dream boy, well spoken, Christian, Family man & always smiling... Not because of his speed.

When he laps Short? Townley's a bit fragile himself and stands as much of a chance being a lap down as Short does. Time will tell. Has Townley ever finished out a season over here?

Lapped? Short finished ahead of Townley in 2010 and they exchanged moto wins the last time they raced together. I think Townley is probably faster than Short, but I don't think it's a joke to think Short can beat him. I think 22 made the right decision though.

Shorty has a fairly decent list of accomplishments over the years. He might not have a title but he has always been consistently in the top 5. If he were racing right now he would be on the podium just as much as Milsaps and Weimer.

Anybody think Reed is laughing?
About what? McGrath talking about Reed starting his own team was about how Reed should have signed a deal and taken the salary and/or bonus money as a rider and not try to start his own team. At this point I don't think Team 22 is making a profit, is it? McGrath on the other hand was able to make a profit when he started his team and was letting Reed know it would be a tough road. If Reed were to laugh about McGrath's current deal going south it doesn't change the fact that his own deal isn't making a profit yet. The money McGrath lost, if any, is probably not anything compared to Reed's expenses versus his income from racing this year and/or last year.

And these are the genious that left Regal without a ride in the last minute,...again Karma.
And dont get me wrong...I like and respect Shorty a lot but Brooks knew exactly what Regal is capable of..moreover outdoors where he has left Short eating dust a number of times as a privateer.(Short with Factory Honda)

So MC's sponsor is Supercross.com. I was at the Mint 400 a few weeks ago and they had two race trucks entered. Why spend money on race trucks if the moto side is hurting. The money spent there seems to be chasing the wrong demographic.

I will certainly take it back iand it was not intended in any way to be disrespectful to Townley. He is an awesome rider but recently he has not done much due to multiple injuries. I hope he comes back and can run the pace up front and stay healthy. It remains to be seen though......

McGrath wasn't going to most of the races, and didn't know who his team's associate sponsors were.

Brooks lost a title sponsor and hastily signed a flaky one, so they can't pay their only guy. So no, he didn't keep him in this case. As a sponsor, I'd sure be pissed if I was expected to keep the operation rolling when our one guy is out.

I think LB is a great manager, and there is no doubt Jeremy loves the sport. But ownership is a completely different ball of wax. What's goofy?

What's goofy is how much you assume you know, and defend as if you're certain... the definition of ignorance, really.

I got the same feeling.

Boy, MC has gotta feel a bit sheepish if his team folds and Reedy's continues to do well.

if you read up carefully, you will notice supercross.com was footing other sponsors bill. at least that how i'm taking it. I don't think supercross.com is the problem. I could be wrong but thats how it reads.

Well, o wise one, I haven't said a single thing that hasn't already been reported or discussed in the media. I guess you should accuse them of the same thing.

But you're right - I'm not a journalist and nothing I ever write here should be taken as fact, just an opinion. I just never thought that kind of disclaimer would be necessary on a message board.
