Here are a few photos from Ricky Carmichael's first race in six years! He was back on the MX scene today as an Amatuer while trying to qualify for Loretta Lynn's National at Aonia Pass Mx in Georgia. It was great to see him back on the bike!

He rode 25+ and Open Pro Sport. He won both his 25+ classes easly however, in Pro sport, he crashed in the first moto and broke a throttle housing and crashed in a corner in the second moto but came back to I think third.

That is awesome!! I can only imagine how quickly the 'rust' will come off by the regional and LLs!

That's cool that he's trying to go back to LL's, but 25+? I understand that he can legally race that class but damn. Why not race two pro classes? Seems a little sandbagish to me... Just my 2 cents

There isn't another pro class that he can ride. instead of having 250 prosport and 450 prosport now they just have open prosport. And the 250 and 450 "A" classes are off limits to ex pros so the only classes he can ride are open prosport and 25 plus. He could race 30 plus but honestly noone in that class would even have a percent of a chance atleast in 25 plus there are some other ex pros like Clark Stiles that race Lorettas every year that might be able to keep him in sight for a few laps

And you care what he's doing because...?

Were you planning on running +25 this year?

Gee, I wonder how he will do in Tennessee. That's a tough one.

Loretta Lynns National amateur Championship

RC is one of the most winning amateur and professional champs of all time. Sorry, I just think he should go race a pro national instead of going to lorettas

So when a pro retires he is not allowed to race again? Come on. While I would much prefer he race a national I think it's great he is going back to his roots. Showing up in a motorhome with his dad as his mechanic is pretty awesome. Who cares if people will now get one place back and a smaller trophy at worst.

It's 25+... It's not like he's stealing a ride from anyone. RC should be able to have fun and go racing without it being an outdoor national IMO.

So then Tim Ferry, Jeremy Mcgrath, Clark styles, all the ex pro's racing Lorretas should sack up and race a national? With the insane amount of injuries we have seen this year I wouldn't blame RC a bit for not wanting to race a national. Clearly not in the shape he used to be, it would take months to get prepared for a national. Not only that but the level at which they push is way higher then at Lorretas inmho. He has nothing to prove anymore, so what he wants to do a little bit of racing, Lorretas is a hellov an event.

People that have never been to an AM event like LL's shouldn't be allowed to comment. What he's doing is fine

Maybe they should have special rules like "If you've ever won a Supercross or AMA Pro National, maximum displacement for your bike is 150cc and you must ride a 2-stroke". That should level the playing field and who would LOVE to see Carmichael killing it on a small bike, again? If that rule went into effect, I'd really be looking forward to Bubba retiring...

Otherwise, I don't think they're breaking any rules so let's enjoy watching them ride again.

I'm gonna totally Vincent him about 10 minutes in... 3rd post.. come at me, bro! Lol. No i think this is cool... Can't wait to see how many laps down I finish! Smile

Hahaha, the funny thing to me is I was thisclose, seriously, to going to UnderGround MX to try to qualify and being 29 I was going for the 25+ class. I'll take this as an omen that I made the right decision and it was not meant to be this year. Focusing on the XTerrra series was definitely the right choice. The LAST thing I would want to do is beat my moto hero cuz, you know, then I would have to find a new one Wink

I would agree except, in his current condition, RC would literally kill a small bore.

Hmm...looks like it's time to institute posting classes here. Since we don't currently have a class structure, I'll just put you in the No Class.

Having RC at LL's will be nothing but cool for everyone there.

If you haven't ever attended, you wouldn't understand.

I have been there as a spectator and as a racer, but I still think 25+ is pushing it. It is great to see him back racing, but I think he should have stuck with Pro Sport. It's just not fair to the Vet guys in my opinion.

RC will be there either way, it will be fun again for him I think! I surely have no problem with it..

I was but school and finances ruined it for me. Next year I'm going for it again though. I'd consider it an honor to line up on a gate with him. If he lined up next to me I would just say "Ready to get your ass kicked?" in a happy go lucky voice.

i love riding in the motorhome to races. my old man driving while i get plowed in the passenger seat.

would be bad ass to be kicking it grilling some Brat's and have a few beers when the Carmichael's motorhome pulls in next to you and out comes Ricky with a beer in his hand.

That's so damn awesome!!! I'm so happy for him, and those that will be able to watch him ride again are lucky SOBs. I honestly newer thought this would happen again, and despite the reasons, glad he found his way back "home". Hoping he's equally happy as well! Smile

I think its sweet, If I get past the regional I can say that I lined up on the same gate as Carmichael... Thats a little motivation right there.

Hell yea that's how it should be taken with RC being there motivation. The ones whining about him going well we know they never had a chance anyway.
