IT WAS NOT THE BOOT'S FAULT!!

his toes were caught under the case guard and his heal was up against the foot peg. The peg didn't actually catch on any part of the boot, and it would have happened even if he was wearing any other boot on the market.

Look at the pictures. It's called physics, not speculation.
Glad you posted that.

Also, along with that being said, it would also explain the fracture in his tib-fib.

As soon as my second pair of Tech 8's officially won't go any more, I'll probably never buy another set of A Stars. And there have been a dozen or so sets between me and the kids. Quality seems to go down with every set we've gotten.

Now examine this next photo (in your photo the bike is still rotating around and the engine guard about to snag his foot). When the bike flipped forward, his shifting area of the foot was wedged between the peg and the engine guard. It also explains why his tib-fib fractured, with the pressure the peg put on his lower leg. I understand perceptual reasoning might not be everyone's strength, but give it a few seconds.

well in "physics" hypothesizing is just a fancy word for speculation. 6 half dozen and all that.

on your hypothesis-- pegs fold upward at a 45 degreeish angle. and I dont see any toes caught on the engine guard.

However, I do see the cuff of the boot being pulled downard by something around the frame spar & engine mount

Looks to me like the inside of the boot is caught on something. Sorry, just what it looks like to me.

Not the boots fault, I am going with guyb on this one. Its gravity's fault!

Even if the boot did get caught, I think it was more him plowing into the ground that caused his injuries...

Where is the shift lever in this picture?

It looks to me like its right below (above...towards the foot) of the red at the top of Reeds boot.

All I know is that on TV when they showed him in slo-mo (slowed down even more by my DVR) after he gets up, it looks like the shift lever is bent up.

Not that it matters...it just sucks that he's out...

edit: I have no clue what happened. current status = confused.

Also, the definition of a conspiracy is an evil act of two or more people (something this has nothing to do with).

But In the photo I posted he is already being pulled by the bike which couldn't happen unless something, somewhere was hooked.

And in the photo you posted the engine guard is clearly visible. It's made by Cycra and is plastic. Surely if there were enough of a wedge created by Reed's boot to actually drag him down the track, the forces exerted on the plastic would tend to at least flex a tad bit, don't you think? But the plastic is not flexing at all. Just because the engine guard is visible doesn't mean it's trapping his foot.

Perceptually reason on that. I'll give you a few seconds.

Just so we're clear;
No other boots could have ever been caught up with the pegs/bike.....right?

Damn those Fox boots!

So without getting into the boot business. Any reason why Chad lawn darted? I looked at the replay a few times and it looks like a classic seat bounce to me, the bike doesn't change attitude suddenly one way or the other like a panic rev or stepping on the brake would do.
Did he just land a bit short and got caught by that small bump?

someone on motocross.com thought it may have been a misshift/neutral. its plausible.

After replaying it quite a few times I got the impression that the back and inside of the boots may have been a contributing factor in his foot being stuck to the bike. Can't say it was the boots fault but if the boots were smooth on back and the inside it's possible his foot may have become unstuck. No way to really say for certain.
Either way the whole thing is a huge bummer, Reed was riding as good as anyone ever has up to that point.

seat bounced, over rotated and front end dropped into a soft spot on the track.

I'll buy that over the missed shift/false neutral. Because with a false neutral he would have endo'ed a lot earlier.
The thing is, unless he was already panic revving at the top of the flight, it seem to me that he would have had plenty of time to correct.
Weird. This goes with James' going over the bars last year. Not the kind of stuff you'd think would happen to riders at that level.

Something else to consider as well, alot of riders sharpen the footpeg teeth to provide better bite on the bottom of the boot, this could contribute, and also lend that any boot may have been snagged by said sharpened pegs. my .02

If I ever switch brands (I've used A-stars since I got my first bike in 1986), the only other brand I'd consider is Gaerne.

psst... My Gaernes occasionally get stuck on my honda. With all the plastic/metal edges meeting up between the bike and boot, there's bound to be a few ways they can get snagged. And I still love my SG10s, had them since 2008 and they show no signs of wearing out anytime soon. Sole still looks fresh. My buddy has gone through 3 pairs of tech 10s in as many years. Overpriced pieces of shit if you ask me.
