Nobody is really ever going to like what people call the "vanilla" commentator, be in Goldberg, Ralph, etc.

Haven't listened, but I haven't said a bard word about the guy ever, so I think I don't have to confirm or deny anything other than I think some feel that there are other people better suited for the job, like Bailey (my suggestion)...

I was sort of indifferent to him before. Really like what he had to say on the podcast. Still not a fan of the Bret Michaels thing but he made some good points that I hadn't considered. He defended himself as part of the sport's 'core' very well. I think we are just more accepting of someone who is not just a fan, but also rides. Guess that's kind of a dumb line of reasoning and I'm guilty. It's just easier to give credibility to commentary from riders (Ping, Fro, RC) or from guys who have ridden either pro or for fun (Matthes, Weege). I will definitely think of Ralph in a positive light now when I hear him calling races.

I have to admit I have a new perspective on the whole Brett Michaels thing now. I have always thought Ralph and Fro do a great job so I was never a hater. Even so I think it was a very enlightening interview and a great listen.

I've always been critical of Sheheen, primarily a few years ago when he continued to pimp the FMOTP crap when clearly the tides were turning. I get it, play to the uneducated viewer, but it did nothing for the sport but give the appearance it was a one man show. Golf has the same issue and Danica promotion is over the top. He's a ton better now that the FMOTP crap has subsided and I look forward to hearing the podcast. That dude has been to every type of racing event and I bet he's experienced some great stuff.

Good listen. I really liked his comments on the sponsorship robot spiel. Shame nothing will change!

Looking forward to listening to it later. I've never bashed the guy, and don't see why everyone else does. Emig and Ralph are ten times better than Todd Harris and Cameron Steele. I think if Ralph had a few AMA MX/SX titles to go along with his name, he would receive a lot less flack.

Be thankful, if not just mute the television and commentate the race to yourself.

Who was it that used to catch a little grief doing SX with Ralph? Robbie Floyd, I think?? He came up to the vintage display at Houston and talked old bikes for quite a while. Pretty knowledgeable and used to race also. I think moto types like moto types doing the broadcast. Probably has a lot to do with this sport still not being widely accepted.

I do have a few questions about the podcast. I was kind of halfway listening and working at the same time, but it seemed like Ralph thinks of himself as a journalist that isn't afraid to ask the hard-hitting questions.

I thought the guy was an announcer. Should I be referring to Ralph as a journalist when discussing him with friends?

Maybe I don't know Ralph's whole role with Speed, but do they ever show him doing interviews?

Or is this behind the scenes stuff that we don't see?

Sorry, but I am commenting as I am listening. Ralph explained it a little better that he and Fro actually do speak to the riders and pretty much act as 'journalists' for the tv show. I would like to see some of these interviews by Ralph and Fro, but it doesn't sound like it is something they record. Back to the show...

Ralph has been involved in the sport a loong time and is also a huge fan, and very knowledgeable. I have heard nothing but good things about him, and he seems like a pretty cool guy to me...

BUT...that doesnt mean i have to like his announcing. Sorry but his voice just sorta grates on my nerves, it is nothing personal, just dont dig his style in the booth.

That's where I'm at with Ralph. He can be the coolest guy ever, just not a big fan of his style. He isn't as bad when he does NASCAR cause he is a pit reporter type. He is in and out quickly, in NASCAR, to much Ralph in the sx booth.

After listening to the pulpcast with Ralph and then watching a re-run of last weeks race, I think the Get your Ride On intro song kicks ass. New level of respect for Ralph also.

That's cause they always suck. No matter the sport.

There's no way Im listening to that show. No way I am going to willingly listen to anymore Ralph than is absolutely required.
