I have to agree with a lot of comments about the coverage. Also I note that Speed has a lot of the same flaws. I understand that the stations have to accommodate to the moto fan and the regular tv viewer. I thought it was going ok till the main when they started to show riders in the pack..ie about laps 14 onward..when you know there is a good battle with the two riders everybody wants to see..JS7 and RV2. (Yes everybody meaning us...yes RV2 as winning everything last year and JS7 as the name the regular fan might recognize and attracts the most attention with moto fans whether we like it or not). So what can we do? We can watch post after post from us complain about the coverage..as we tend to concentrate on the negatives...or we can do something about it. I have emailed both Speed and CBS with some feedback. Here are the links..

I remember back in the day, setting my alarm for 3am so I could recorded the 125's on VHS. Atleast now we have Tivo and the races are played at decent hours of the day.

Sure the CBS coverage is absolute crap, but atleast we have coverage and the LIVE coverage on SPEED IMHO is awesome, I usually have some friends over and we bbq or call for a pizza. Maybe next year we'll get even more LIVE coverage on SPEED?

Unhappy sponsors and you don't get 10 LIVE races and dozens of hours of original programming and repeats on three different networks for 2013. Remember when....

I was there last night and watched today just to see what I missed. I was pleasantly surprised to see the first heat race covered completely at the the top of the show. Almost thought the 2nd was going to be covered complete too the way I felt the timing of the show was going, but wasn't disappointed either.

And if you go back and watch the race up until JS7 fell they caught all the key moments in the race. And after that, CR22 and RD5 pulled away and were riding good but just riding around...The only story left was RV's amazing run through the pack and they did a good job going back and showing his key passes. The last 5 laps there was no "battle" between RV and JS. RV never got close enough to "battle". Maybe there was some strategy on RV's part to wait and "battle" on the last lap to avoid any retaliation on JS' part but he waited too long or James was going too fast still or something but it didn't happen.

So what to do with 4-5 laps that were "just there". How about catch up some other stories of the race, maybe give a little airtime (aka LOVE) to other teams and riders? Remember, there are some new teams (equals SPONSORS) in the sport so show something on Shorty, Grant, etc. Would I have liked to see an interview with James or Ryan after...sure, but I thought Chad's interview was great, humble, and concerned about Trey and Ryan, etc. Replace the nice KTM First WIn feature for a couple of interviews? No way, that was really interesting and good for the sport and KTM...Remember, KTM is NOT a sponsor of the series like Honda, Yamaha and Kawasaki.

From my semi-professional point of view I think the crew did a fine job as the night unfolded balancing all on their plates. I know next time I see them I will thank them for giving us all the opportunity to be critical Smile Perhaps you guys might join me because I know they don't hear it enough...or at all.

I'm also not a normal griper about TV coverage, but I was very surprised at the sparse comments about the Canard/Morais crash. They showed a little clip of it one time, said a few words and that was that.

If I was a journalist covering a sporting event, I'd be looking for "The Story" - and here you have a guy who has come back from injury after injury, sometimes very soon, and getting stuck in the worst position that any SX rider can ever be in - and that due to a fluke "malfunction". And he gets hauled off the field of play in an unresponsive condition after being landed on over a triple on the first lap. To me, that's a "Story", but they didn't say much about it at all. I realize they can't do "The Trey Canard Story" during the telecast, but he's one of the five guys who could reasonably contend for race wins, and to see him down there on the ground without much comment at all was, I thought, very poor journalism.

Man I wish I had something to complain about. We get raped from all angles here in Australia. I have pay tv (Austar - which is essentially the ONLY provider here in oz) and have SPEED in HD. Only problem is they show the SX (yes, including the ones that are live on speed) about a week later. A FUCKING WEEK.

I lived in the US for a while and had Directv and Charter....I could never complain about them again after enduring the shit we put up with here.

Anyone who wants to complain about not seeing the JS/RV battle should just read MX-Files response over and over. He's right, there was no "battle". RV caught up fairly quickly, but JS kicked up his pace and they stayed about a second apart for the last 5 laps. Maybe RV gained .1 each lap? Whatever it was, it wasn't exciting to watch in person and I certainly didn't care to see it again on TV!

Nothing to see here, move along!

I am a little sick of hearing that the TV broadcasts are not for us- the hardcore fans. Really, screw that. We are the ones that support this sport. The average viewer who checks out five minutes of a race as he flips between the Kardashians and reruns of Charles in Charge is not buying bikes and gear, or even supporting the products that are advertised. We all know moto fans are so hardcore they will actually pick products that sponsor teams. Is someone going to start drinking Monster because they saw it on a Supercross race?

It's 2012- we should be able to go online and flip between live helmet cam feeds of every rider. If there is no live TV broadcast there should be an audio one. Refreshing a twitter feed is so lame. Nothing against the Feld crew, but can't this be done better?

X3 !! Just keep it on speed. I would have understood the poor broadcast had it been live. But seeing how we had to wait till the day after the event why butcher up like that, why not just show the whole dam thing. Our household Will not be watching anymore piss poor coverage on CBS. We will get better updates, results, and interviews elsewhere. Its moto gurus like us that keep this sport alive, so there is no reason we cant have our cake and eat it tooSmile

At least most of you got to even watch it! They decided to air kids show instead of the race here in middle Tennessee. I emailed the local affiliate and he told me that by law they were required to show at least 3 hours of children's programming between the hours of 7-10 am, a week. They normally do this on Saturday mornings from 9-12, but CBS aired the Alabama/Kentucky game at 11 so they decided to cut Supercross. It sucks to have YOUR sport, the one and only sport that most of us love to be put on the back burner. These guys work so hard to put on a show for the fans, and the people that support them in their teams and sponsors, but they don't even get the TV coverage! I can't stand watching football, basketball, or baseball. He did insure me though that they were gonna air it at 1:50 am Monday morning though, good thing I don't have classes at 8am.......Oh wait........(SARCASM)

It was ironic how many times they would be showing basically nothing, while you could hear the sparse crowd cheering for something that the editing crew did not deem important enough to broadcast?

If it was a live race, it is a split second decision which camera to use. But a next day broadcast? Really, is it that hard?

So it's the EXACT same crew for both shows. Well that same crew sucks when they do a CBS show. Speed is fine, I have no complaints, except for those ill fitting jackets the commentators wear.

Show the friggin races man. Even a non-moto head probably hates all the fluff BS.

Actually, no it wasn't. It wasn't shown in my area at all. No surprise though. Every time a race is on CBS it doesn't get shown here. I get local news and "Face the Nation" instead, even though my guide says Supercross. I knew it was going to happen this time too, and I was right. So to answer your question... No, it wasn't on TV at all. So I have plenty to complain about and reasons to not be happy.

It was horrendous. Can't wait for the GPs to start to see the racing and analysis without constant plugs and ads. Commercialism has went crazy in the US lol

Couldn't believe they had an ad break in the middle of the main, and yet again didn't show the full second heat. It really is embarassing. Then they missed Stewarts crash and didn't follow the RV/Stewart battle!!!

Speed have too many ads too but at least they show you all the races in full.

I wish all the races were live on speed... or, even better, there was a website dedicated to watching supercross like the GPs and nationals.

They have yet to figure out how to call a SX race. Ralph and Jeff use filler material the entire race, as if there is no action worth watching.
The producers need to learn how to relate lap times and gaps to the call of the race, so the viewers know where the action is and where the action will be in coming laps.

Call the race.
Don't browse around the field with the cameras and chat about what you heard in the pits or at testing during the week. Chat about that stuff between races.

For these TV production teams it's more about the drama now then the actual racing.

I couldn't believe the producer was so worried about getting Josh Grant's story for pulling off the track, that we missed the race for and change of the lead. And Grant wasn't even talked to. We had Erin with her drama lead in and then nothing as the show was then cut back to after the position change on screen. Amateurish.

No disrespect, but seriously, I could care less about the story of a guy with no points that hasn't even finished a race this year over Reed grabbing the lead.


Then there are commercial breaks where parts of the race are just cut out for those slots. No coming back to where we left off. Lets just chop that battle right out of the racing.

Honestly, the race coverage of the Dodger Stadium Supercross was the worst I've ever witnessed in 35 years of spectating this motorsport.
