I'm generally a fan of MXA but geez Jody, just because we all didn't start racing in '68 doesn't mean that we as fans aren't entitled to opinions and observations, just like any other freaking sport!! Unlike most sports, at least most moto fans are actual riders and racers. And the real kicker is that I'm sure quite a few peolpe on places like Vital have been racing since the 60s and 70s. No need to be so bitter...

I thoroughly enjoyed that, but youre not allowed to copy and paste, you have to put a link... because one of the people he is talking about said so.

MXGAY lives in the past enough that we don't need too....

Thanks, I just revised the post so it is now just a link.

Well, when I read the lead of that article, it just seems to me that every rider on the gate has their own story. I know there is a lot of junk on the web, but there is a lot of credible and relevant information also.

Exactly, MXA is definitely suited for a specific demographic... which IMO doesn't bode well for bringing in the younger generations to the magazine (you know... that small target market of 18-35 years old born after 1968).

They talk about "newbie journalists" that don't get the facts right yet they don't attend all the races and get the facts wrong all the time.

How do you know they don't attend all the races? I remember seeing Jody at 2 east coast SX rounds in '09 and Mathes was calling bullshit. Apparently there is some self appointed attendance police that makes sure to verify that MXA journalists attend all the races, or not, by checking everyone of the 1000's of people that pass through the gates.

Of course a good portion of that demographic buys bikes based off of that latest and greatest stickers and rim color and relies on momma and daddy still.

It's been reported many times they don't and when they wrote shit about RC nobody was at the race to talk to him when he called them out...MXA has even said they don't attend all of them.

Unless your saying MXA lied about not being at all of them...

Do they even need to be at every race anymore? AMA Pro racing coverage is over-saturated and with the TV packages and internet coverage, reading about it in a magazine two months later is redundant. MXA may have shifted their focus to the technical and historical side of the sport, which is a good thing, imo.

Funny how your tune changed from how do you know they don't go to do they need to be at the races... They weren't attending the races when it wasn't on TV by the way...

Until I can get live helmet cam, I don't think I'd say it's "over saturated", but I get your point.

And I agree 100 percent about MXAs shift toward technical and history being a good thing, but as a (non moto) writer and PR person I don't think the tone they often take is the best approach. I'm 39 and it alienates me, if I was 24 or 18 I seriously doubt I would have even continued to read the article.

But hey, maybe you're right, maybe I am just being overly sensitive!

The only thing I've had figured out is how bitter MXA is.

They didn't attend all the races then and don't now yet somehow it's a good thing and they constantly do the same thing they bash others for doing.

Well there you go... a vintage bikes guy who hates 4 strokes stuck up for MXA... Wink

I respect the "good ole days" and enjoy reading about the racing back then. But since I was born in 1982, I have a different period in mind when I think of the "golden age" than someone like you... and I hate to break it to you, but that's how it goes from generation to generation. All I'm saying is that you will have diminishing returns if your magazine is written for only those that raced since 1968.

Cool article, Got through the Howerton story. I actually knew the answer to that mystery from my old man telling me that Howerton invented the technique way back when. Going to finish it when I have some time to concentrate on the other stories. Very good read, Jody.

He does make strong points at the beginning of that article. Google and Wikipedia are great, but they aren't a replacement for actual knowledge (although I use google all the time to answer questions, I usually like to find a couple separate sources in the search that back each other up before I go spouting shit off as fact.)

Is this another of Jody's Forrest Gump acts, where he puts himself at the center of every moto event that he says matters in the history of sport that wouldn't exist without him and the "wrecking crew"?

funny anyone who is older and has an opinion is "bitter". I didn't read the MXA stuff in the 70's and I sure the hell don't read it now. Just like i don't bother with racer whatever, and dirt bike this or that. I leave it up to all these people on the post boards for thier infinite wisdom........ Tongue

But the one thing i do know.

If you have no clue where ya came from, eventually you will lose your way going forward while makeing old mistakes over and over.

Not all things from the past are bad, or specifically good, just like all "new" things aren't the best and only way either.

Bitter? That's never been the inference that I've gotten from their stories. I would say "opinionated" but I wouldn't call them "bitter".

I like MXA. The other magazines don't do a thing for me. Different strokes for different folks.

BTW, this article is several years old.

Hates 4 strokes? Or just hates the idea of a 250lb. "lightweight" racing motorcycle? Or hates the idea of a scatterbomb 250F scaring off potential entry level riders to the sport? Or hates the displacement rules as they are written because it hasn't done anything good for the sport? Well there you go, a younger whippersnapper whose reading comprehension "ain't" too good....Wink

Oh, about sticking up for MXA??? Guess you didn't research your victim too well either...Wink

http://www.vitalmx.com/forums/Moto-Related,20/250SX-vs-250F-Observation…

"Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki and Kawasaki probably wouldn't let MXA have any test bikes if they included the 250SX in the shootout. MXA would have to go out and buy their test bikes....again.

It is odd how they continue to test based off of pro racing rules yet they continue to say their opinions will not be swayed. How many pros buy bikes compared to amateurs and vets?"

You know FTE, you are usually a voice of reason on this forum, but every time there is a MXA bashing thread, you always respond with some barbs. Jody's writing style may not be your cup of tea, but is it really necessary for you to criticize him ever time a MXA/Jody thread comes up?
