bloody hell I'm always asleep when these threads start and people beat me to what I want to say haha

I broke my collar bone once, I wasn't wearing a neck brace... is what i was gonna say

how come Ryno didn't tweet canard about his concern about his knee braces causing his femur breaks.. is what I was gonna say
there's been some reports that they do

I'd respect his opinion a lot more if he didn't put in the "bear trap" comment, to me that implies that he thinks canard is stupid for not seeing he shouldn't be wearing it... also way to make it public bro, if you really are concerned talk to him face to face or ring him.. screams "look at me, look at me" if you ask me

I had a massive over the bars crash and the neck brace caused a broken sternum, top 3 ribs and i shattered the shoulder blade and trashed my AC joint..
One thing the docs couldnt believe was i hadnt broken my neck. When i told Them i had the leatt brace on they basically said its extremely likely it had saved me from death or being paralysed. It was a short term sentence to pay, but could of been a life sentence had i not had neck protection.

This isn't the same old argument that Leatts break collar bones. Or the argument about the effective neck protection the leatts are said to provide. I think we can all agree that those horses have been beatin. Ryno is bringing a different angle to the table, in which he is saying the Leatt is the reason why Trey has crashed out big on three separate occasions.

Yes, Trey happened to break his in this crash, but what Ryno is claiming is that the Leatt CAUSED the Crash no the BROken collar bone. The only logic I could see in Ryno's statement Is it not allowing him to utilize his normal riding technique. Kind of a stretch but, as previously stated Ryno is a bit out in left field sometimes.
He should just stick to his labratory and mixing those very safe nutritional concoctions he is selling. Clearly the Leatt does not allow you to properly engage, unlock, (or whatever it is) your hips, causing crashes all the time.

Freaking Ryno.

It's funny how forgettable accomplished motocross riders are to some people. Just imagine if in a few years Carmichael takes a position on a hot button topic, and people start saying that he is "a joke"... what is this moto world coming to?

exactly! ryno may not be perfect (who is?) but you cant just ignore his accomplishments in the sport. He was/ stil is a great rider, and a great coach by all accounts. Anybody that has ridden at the level he has, and been so activally involved in the sport for so long deserves to be listened to! (regardless of whether or not you agree with him)

thats more than a bit of a stretch... really? comparing ryno to ricky?

many call ryno a joke because of his off track antics, so in reality his accomplishments on the track are a mute point anyways...

Sad, isn't it.

They feel comfortable behind their monitors far away. I echo what SH105 stated. I think if you threw that little Ozzi boy Tobz in front of Ryno he would be eating his words, literally. And in awe of Ryan's speed and style on a bike. I guess no one here has met Ryan, he is a super nice guy and will be the first one to help you out at the track if you ran into trouble. Also a bloody good teacher/trainer. Check out Pala sometime and you will see what I mean, the man is devoted.

Oh, and I dropped my leatt from a big crash at Rynoland hah!

UMMMM who cares what he did on the track? You think winning a national mx title makes you competent on the science behind a neck brace? Get real.

You don't wear one and I will. You can laugh when I break my collarbone and I'll laugh when you break your neck and you can never walk again. Fair?

The people defending Ryno's baseless claims probably think Forest Gump was a genius too.....

Ryno probably doesn't wear a neck brace for one reason................................................imagine if Lapaglia had been able to grab ahold of the front of his leatt at Mammoth when they had their fight!

My guess its they are just going off of the other injuries you had, Those docs have probably never seen a MX rider crash on video. Let alone in real life.

Even Ricky has said a couple times he doesn't believe in them for the lack of proof and data on them, Chad Reed has said he doesn't wear one because of Sharkys autopsy.

That was pretty classless of Ryno to publicly give his opinion to Trey, when Trey is in a bad situation. Its Treys personal choice if he wants to wear a neck-brace. Thats like saying "oh so-and-so you crashed because you chose the wrong tire, and you slid out you dumb dumb". Never met the guy and dont really care to, just seeing/reading interviews with him he comes off as an arrogant know-it-all. Criticizing Stewart for not riding with his hips unlocked, then say if you take my instructional courses I'll tell you my secret on how to unlock your hips. The guys a kook and hes trying to market himself after his moto career, he's all about promoting his services by trying to sound like he knows what others don't.

I know that in Snowboarding where your head goes your body will follow. So is Ryno saying that a neck brace restricts your natural movement thus limiting a professional rider from riding to his full potential? Every year I notice more pros opting out of neck braces. I tried the Leatt brace and it limited my head movement and I didn't like it.

I was going about 15 mph in a turn right after an ATV race and my front wheel sank in the turn because it was all powder and I went over the bars. The bottom of my helmet pushed the leatt against the bottom of my collarbone breaking it. I know I wouldn't have broken it if I wasn't wearing the leatt. With that being said I still wear it. I would much rather break my collarbone than my neck.
That would be enough for me to ditch the brace right there.

I like John Dowds opinion of chest protectors and neck braces. At age 46 he still races a couple Nationals per year.

At age 38 Ryan Hughes must be scared to race at Dowds level. Sans neck brace and chest protector of course. Maybe that is why he trains women racers. Just wondering.
