I had a YZ250 2-Stroke throw a rod out the bottom taking cases and cylinder with it. They are race bikes, shit happens when you ride the hell out of them.

2. We had no idea it was going to blow (definitely NOT staged)
3. To answer the above quote...So he can pull wicked mean hole shots, why else would you practice starts?
4. 2 strokes 4 strokes? who gives a sh*t....Dirt bikes are sick!
5. Regardless of this '12 Kawi blowing up. I would still buy one of those over any other 2012. Those things are badass!
6. That bike did not have 250 hours on it...or even half that....or even half of half of that.
What was the culprit that let go? Maybe others can learn from this. Not that I want to distract from all the fun in this thread.

Really? $3500 in repairs?

i heard it was $35,000 in repairs. and the failure was actually caused by the projectile from an al qaeda sniper rifle.

Dropped valve through piston, shoved valve through head, snapped rod upon impact, chunked rod through cases. You know everything in the vicinity is trashed from top to bottom. Drop it off at the dealer or favorite mechanic and I'll bet a dollar the bill is $3500.00. Others here have been popped over four grand by dealers for similar explosions.

Actually not sure of cost of repair...Thats just a made up number by the person who started this thread.

newmann is probably correct on what actually happened...

Wait, a diesel explodes NASCAR style and some people think it was staged? This is what four strokes do when they blow up. The very first YZ250F we sold blew up the same way after it had 25 hours on it. Cost the guy $2500 and that was in '02. He sold it for a loss and bought a YZ250 2T.

I`m glad it happened where it did and not on the face of a triple / high speed area!!!

Same thing happened recently to a friend's bike (his son's actually) kawi 250f with less that 10 hours on it.
Rod broke and punched a nice hole through the case. He kind of lucked out because it broke before he got to the next tabletop.

If you guys could not listen to that motor and tell it was going to blow than you had your heads in the dirt

Agreed on lack of oil. Why was no oil pouring out once the cases popped?

Rigged
I have to agree on the side of it being rigged/setup. Notice how he idles up to the shot from off camera, and sits there idling, not once giving the go fast handle a good twist. I can't think of a time I EVER saw an MXer sit there and NOT blip the throttle for good measure on the line. Bike sounded like it was about to explode.

If that isn't a setup I hope that dude never goes out on a track with a bike sounding like that again. As someone else said, lucky it wasn't over a triple.

And another. Don't see any valve damage on the top of the piston, looks like the rod just broke for no other reason.

OMG!!! Did you hear that bike right before he took off??? It sounded like it was going to explode. He should have known something was wrong. He should pull his head out of the sand next time. That was obviously rigged. Where did all the oil go? Where's my tin foil hat???Tongue

Shussss! Let him think that the piston broke free from the rod, impacted through the head, snapped many bolts and plumbing, through the intake and out the airbox.

It's possiable. Four strokes were created by the Devil!

ha , ya I think so. Heard all the top teams going back to 2 strokes now after they watched this staged video.

I saw the JGR riders today riding at Stewarts and they were both on the YZ250 2 strokes and had all kinds of engineers there working with them.

Great eye..you are correct, I used to hear about stories from the 60s where guys would shave down flywheels, the flywheel would then fly off and make 'em sound like Michael Jackson.
