That format is so much better for the fans! A lot better for the riders to get TV time for sponsors too! Seems like a must for the growth of the sport.

You are thinking of Chris Neal, he is like my little brother, grew up together, he and his dad lived with my family for years and we learned to ride together.

the factories bitched to AMA that they couldnt keep the four strokes running long enough for a moto, semi, lcq and main.

not really, but i would buy that as a plausible explanation.

I like the idea of going back to the good ole days when there use to be some racing. Before long it will be invite only with a sight lap for practice at the nationals and SX.

I liked the semis too. I also liked the longer lap times and 10 lap motos because it virtually eliminated lappers.

I agree I would be much better for the teams to get exposure. Thank about it. If your a team like H&H would you rather have a guy get 5th in a heat and no TV time or basically get the same position and win a Semi. He gets TV time and a chance to promote his sponsors on TV. Seems like a no brainier in a tough economy for all the teams.

I have been saying this for a long time but..... The sad fact is it makes the show to long for tv.

The program was great in that we got to watch some actual racing....vs the lame sx show that exists now. The track held up just fine which I think was one of their arguments fro doing away with the semis. 9 riders going from the heat races=lame.

I'm pretty sure if they cut out all the stupid stuff like last year when they had Stewart going through Taco Bell, it will fit just fine!

it's 2011... TV is so outdated,,,,,bring back the semis and do a live internet stream (good qty) of the night program charge $100 for season pass...

Bring back the run what you brung part too. Can't see how it would affect the end results that much considering the last few years.

I agree.
Hated to see them go in the first place.

The answer to the reasons of they had gotten rid of them that were always tossed around were....
1,They are trying to format the program for better live TV & TV in general. (I personally thought they added to the whole show)
2, Wear on the track before the mains. (even though 2 semis are 12 extra laps,I dont see it being much of a difference in track condition unless it's a mudder)

i enjoyed seeing other riders dicing in front.
for one, their sponsors should be pushing this format into sx!
the present format is wal-mart,target,kmart
last nights format is like the above mart's and ace hardware, dollar general, pinch a penny, cvs, hooters, etc.
get it?

Just think, Nick Wey never would have got that exposure without the heat race.

With semi races it actually makes timed qualifying not that bad. If they just adjusted the timed qualifying a little like say,,,

Top 30 goes straight to the night show then have some daytime races for the rest it would bring more fans to the stadium earlier in the day. Plus give the riders who are on the bubble a better chance of qualifying.

Feld, I hope your taking notes of all this free of charge advise! Angry

Timed qualifying the way it is now, and bring back the semi races. It's just too easy to not qualify for the mains now. One bike malfunction (Dungey) or one guy crashing in front of you (Villopoto) can lead to having a terrible gate pick (Dungey) or not qualifying altogether (Villopoto). Those things can screw up the championship altogether, especially in a close series like the one we just witnessed. I guess every rider has to deal with it though, so it is what it is.

Small world Scotty, I know Chris, he lives here in Bend. I used to ride with him. Chris is a cool guy. I haven't seen him much over the last couple years though, I know he left for a while and then moved back up.

The only way we will ever see the semi races added is if a sponsor pays for more TV time.....one can wish!

I would go out and buy a Monster drink if that happened!
