Well, 20% increase over 8 years isn't too bad. I remember paying $2.89 last summer for diesel in Georgia at this time. Now it's $4.75 here in Fl.

That's not bad . A new 450 in England with taxes is just over $10 grand.

Our dollar is getting it's ass kicked lately ..... If they continue to raise prices no one will be buying regardless of exchange rates eventually Mfg's will have shot themselves in the foot

That boat that brings bikes from Japan to Cali runs on diesel. The plant that forges and casts aluminum and steel parts runs on fossil fuel.

Everything that goes into making a motorcycle, transporting it's parts from all over, then getting it here costs more because the energy costs more. Inflation fella's, dont expect it to get any better this decade.

Exactly. When the Fed lowers interest rates to prop up the US economy, the dollar ratchets down some more. And when the dollar ratchets down, the cost of every import ratchets up, which makes a higher trade deficit, which increases the current account deficit and increases inflation, which depresses the economy, which means the Fed has to lower interest rates, which...

For me, i just need to wait a year and the price goes down $500 -$1000 at my local dealer, OTD cycles. I got my 05 rm125 in 2007 for $4000 brand new and assembled fresh out of the crate.

It's not just moto that's being affected by the weak dollar; heard yesterday that Trek bikes (bicycles) are going to see a 20% increase across the board for '09. Not just the high-end carbon stuff, but the entire line. Like Nate said, the shipping costs are jacking the eventual price on a lot of products being brought into the US.

Bikes haven't gone up much - in comparison to other things. There's a dealer in WV selling 2007 yz250fs for 5k flat.

The price of MX bikes has been pretty much in line with the rate of inflation, and given the Yen to Dollar exchange rates going in the toilet (at least from the Japanese perspective) they are likely making much less profit today than they were 8 years ago.

A weak dollar makes any import more expensive, but helps exports (if Cannondale could have survived they would be a bargain in Japan). The cost of oil is certainly a factor in driving the dollar lower, but the national debt is also a huge factor (it is pretty scary to look at the trillions of dollars of US government debt that is owed to foreign investors).

My 1981 YZ80 was $739 list price. What a bargain, I should have kept that one (and the 24 motorcycles I have bought since that one).

I'd say it's pretty remarkable that they are that cheap.

lol, well I have pictures of it after it was well thrashed, but none of it new. I do have some of my 1980 CR250 taken after one ride. I'll dig around a bit and try to post them later.

"does not include government fees, taxes, dealer vehicle freight/preparation, dealer document preparation charges or any finance charges (if applicable). MSRP and/or final actual sales price will vary depending on options or accessories selected."

Walk in there with a check for 5K and see if they give you the bike.

CRF prices in Japan since it's debut and 2008.

2002 CRF450 679,000yen ($6,466 @105yen/$1)
2008 CRF450 765,000yen ($7,285) up13% in 7 years

2004 CRF250 589,000yen ($5,610)
2008 CRF250 630,000yen ($6,000) up7% in 5 years.

It seems like price has increased more in US or Europe than in Japan up to 2008, but I do believe 2009 is the year it will go way up. Every made in Japan is getting more and more expensive in last 6 month or so. I guess it's same story globally.

something interesting.
1988 CR125 399,000yen ($3,800) my first new bike
1972(1973?) CR250M Elsinore 300,000yen! ($2,857)
