Just got my new issue and started thumbing through it, and in the center is a full JT Racing Catalog, like 32 pages, both front and back. Just had a flashback to racing my 79 RM100.

They went old school with the AD, featuring a bunch of top riders from back in the day. Be interesting to see what happens.

I was bonn post about this. I thought it was a little overkill to put the entire catalog in a magazine. I ripped the whole thing out of mine.

If they can afford to, more power to them. Personally I wished there were still more paper copies out there. As convienient as online shopping is, sometimes its a pain in the ass. I have a few sponsors where there rider support programs require to order direct off there website without sending out a paper copy, can be a nightmare when the pages wont load.
I wish JT well, more options the better. Good for the industry.

What's the difference? One month there's 30 pages of Fox. Next month, 30 pages of DeCal Works. Now that one really puzzles me.....obviously a buttload of money in graphics for a talented few! Good for them though. The only thing I saw missing from the JT ad was a caption asking "do these pants make my ass look big"? LOL at the old guys. At least I'm not the only one!

I love that new JT stuff and that catalog is awesome. I 've been going through all my old mags and you used to see that a lot. Some of my old MXA's are thick as hell because of big catalog ads.

I recall back in the early 90's when Fox would have an entire catalog in the mags and I loved it, but the JT piece in Racer X this month just seemed out of place. Maybe it's because Fox was a powerhouse at the time and right now JT has no market share. I love old school motocross and have a great deal of respect for the legends featured in the JT ad, but it certainly doesn't make me want to go out and buy their gear. Going with the relatively blah nostalgia gear will probably only resonate with as small crowd and I don't know if anyone else noticed, but something about the knees in their pants looks really bulky and odd. I have a feeling that they are going to sell a lot more t-shirts and hats than sets of gear.

It's cool to see the old legends being used for ads and have a chance to do something again, but do you really want to build a brand on old dudes? Some of them look old gosh, if the target is the 40+ crowd who buys 1 set of gear every 3 years, it's definitely on target. it was cool in the 80's but it look old now.

I thought it was cool at first but now I find it lame. This is not jt racing, this is a company with money and a past at doing that (Ed hardy, Von Dutch), buying a famous name and trying to copy and reproduce stuff that was created 25 years ago. No creativity, no originality, no personality, no soul. U cant buy 'soul'

Let me go find my Walk-Man, who wants to use one of those new iPhone thing.

So funny, other sports like NASCAR, baseball, football, basketball have throwback jerseys and ask any 10 yr old kid who Babe Ruth, Michael Jordan or Dale Earnhardt is and they know and would run their jerseys in a heartbeat. Motocross come lately fans seem kind of snobish and only willing to accept the gear being worn by top guy who is winning right now...kind of sad that that some people in the sport are against preserving the history, honoring the greats.

Talk about "no soul" look at most of the gear companies these days, they are owned by huge disrtrib companies and the gear that is "the competition" is all owned and made in the same plant by same designers. At least JT Racing, Fox are owned by a family or individuals who have direct creative input on the product.

If some of these fockers could have experienced a weekend at 'dilla in the late 70's early 80's they would understand where you are coming from.....Bring back the Trans USA while your at it.....Nothing like an Oct morning in upstate NY with all of Euros finest battling our legends....

The knee area is bulky. The JT guys with Marty Smith pointed this out at Unadilla last week. They said they are allowing for knee braces, something most other brands don't do. I don't wear knee braces so can't say if its true.

Ahhh the good ol' completely false "puke" arguement. Every gear company has ATLEAST one line of regular colorways, yet people always seem to only remember the puke designs, I wonder why that is? Maybe the crazy colors really do stand out more and grab your attention

nah, I really don't think kids want to wear Babe Ruth or Dale Sr jersey unless their parents or grand-parents purchased it for them. And it's not a new thing in MX, it's always been like that, in the late 80s, young guys wanted to look like Bailey or RJ, not like Thorsten Hallman or 1970s' Roger Decoster.

Not all distributor are soulless, owned by just shareholders, I guess Johnny was thinking of Answer and Tucker Rocky or Fly and WPS, but Thor is owned by Parts Unlimited which is owned by one family. Fred Fox created and built Parts from nothing, him and his son Jeff have the passion for racing which led them to purchase Thor and bring it back up to the top along with Fox. So yes Thor belongs to a big distributor, but this is still a family business run by the same one family.

PN27416, do you really believe that other brands don't build pants with space for knee braces, LOL!

don't worry they do enough. No one has been complaining in the past 5 years and at least 35% to 45% of the riders are using knee braces, especially the more affordable and bulky ones. The guy just gave you his salesman's pitch.

For about the tenth time...

Guys, what you are seeing now from JT are the designs that were done about a year ago and are now making it to market.

Since that time, fairly recently, JT hired David Bailey as their Creative Director. What you will see in the next 12-18 months will be the result of that union.

I haven't seen any of it yet, but I'm pretty familiar with DB's talents as a designer. Should be pretty cool.

I spoke with the JT Racing folks last year before they unpacked the pants and the roomy knee was one of the features. I have almost all the top riders gear, pants, jerseys, gloves....the gear has no labels or has "sample" and hand written size tags. The gear is custom one off, prototype for the next year and yes Im talking about Thor, Answer, MSR, FOX, Shift...so the top riders arent really wearing the same gear you buy off the shelf.

Puke argument is 100% accurate!! The market started releasing some gear with cleaner lines in just the past 2 years, I would say that Troy Lee and the orange retro Fox gear they used at Unadilla (which they didnt sell but had thousands of requests for) was the reason along with some of the hype and leaked photos of JT.
Dont fool yourself into thinking the other brands arent worried about JT..... the JT owners know how to get in touch with a maket and have the money to do it. They have a billion dollars in sales with Von Dutch, Ed Hardy.....that was no accident.
The motocross market is the same as any other "fashion" market, the styles will come back again...FOX retro gear is awesome!! Chads Two Two Shift gear, Troy Lee stuff is amazing too. Its not really retro, just good clean lines

I think you missed the point...the fact that a 10 yr old would know or even care who Dale sr. or Babe Ruth is awesome considering kids in motocross these days couldnt tell you who R.J., Hannah, Bailey, Lechien is and thats sad for our sport.

Oh please, you cant be serious. Every year companies have clean lines and normal colors, but people never notice them. It has nothing to do with JT. You really think a company selling 20 yr old knockoff shit has the other companies terrified?

I am dead serious, Im at every Supercross, Natl motocross, Lorettas Lynns, European races... I work in the industry and know all the players enough to know whats going on.

Ask Donnie over at FMF how Monster, Rockstar went ballistic on them when they announced they were making an "energy type drink" or how Monster blurred out the Red Bull logo on Pastrana's hat at LA last year, or how AHRMA cant hand out "energy peanuts" These companies are fighting for scraps and dont want ANY competition. Answer racing gear was not selling for years, then Roger got Stewie signed......boom they made a dent in the market.

JT WAS American motocross back in the day. The best riders wore it and if you didn't wear it then you wanted it. I just hope they stay true to their roots though. All they need is one top rider to wear it and they are back on top. If you don't think every one of the top gear companies was wondering what the new JT was going to be then you are a damn fool. They care, because they all are here because of JT. Hell, I'll even admit I'm going to buy some just to remember the good 'ol days.
