Glad to see that something was done. I had no idea as to what an appropriate penalty was. So I am not going to criticize this one. It was important that they do something though and frankly a time penalty in reflection is probably a fair penalty in cases of track cutting. 10 seconds didn't affect anything here but in other situations could have a major impact.

the fact that it was a meaningless penalty was the reason it was applied.

honda is the defacto owner of the series.....rockstar is the title sponsor of the series. tough place for mxsports to be in. which is why i dont think a sponsor of a series should ever be allowed to sponsor a team. total conflict of interest. but oh well.

and we're all just speculating here anyways. but plenty of riders were having trouble in the corners yesterday. and due to the gnarly wreck, barcia might have been a little woozy. his chances of messing up in the turn that he cut, might have been pretty high. and it wouldve cost him a lot more time than 10 seconds.

but there's a lot of "what ifs" in that paragraph. which is why they race right? to settle the "what ifs". and if youre cutting the track, youre not racing the same race. its pretty simple.

i dont think they will ever be able to enforce this stuff due to sponsor obligations but it would be nice if there were some clearly defined penalties, strict ones, that would make a rider think twice before cutting the track. but in the grand scheme of things, who cares. there are much worse offenses occuring with regards to PEDs (is it even illegal in ama mx?) and illegal motors. this whole barcia thing is pretty trivial when you look at the big picture.

Mod. You hit the nail on the head. Consistent application of the rules is critical. Clearly defined penalties at the beginning of the series would avoid a lot of problems and lessen the burden on mxsports.

I was standing right there when it happened. Barcia didn't go down that hard luckily.. in practice I think barcia whipped into dungey. The double after the sky shot going up the hill dungey looked back and gave him the finger

Sorry if someone posted this already. We just left and I'm still in unadilla mode

Of all the idiotic controversies on message boards - and there are plenty - this baloney about Barcia colliding with Dungey being "reckless" is on top of the list. Barcia was trying to avoid being trapped behind a lapper, Dungey got a strong drive and pulled up next to him in the air, and there was nothing Barcia could do about it except crank the bike over in the air and avoid hitting him hard, which he did. It was the last lap and Barcia was trying to get second, and at the end of the whole episode, Barcia was the one who paid the price. I'm sure Dungey wasn't happy, but I'm also sure he mostly was unhappy that he'd spent two motos struggling to pass someone that RV passed with ease. If stuff like that gets you all queasy, maybe motocross isn't your sport.

Did you just tell motokid40 that MX is not his sport because someone crossed over in front of him in the air? I think that's what I heard....

Neither Barcia nor Dungey got hurt. Stop being such a drama queen. You're making a big controversy out of nothing. Two guys raced hard and one of them went down. Happens every single moto of every race in America.

But to some extent, that's the way it is. If you go out on the track, you might make some mistakes that cost someone else and someone else might make a mistake that costs you. Nobody likes it when someone gets hurt because of someone else's mistake, but it happens. If that's unacceptable, find another sport.

Please cut and paste where he mentioned motokid40 at all please. I can't find it.

Pretty sure he was addressing all of the guys saying Barcia's actions were dangerous and unacceptable.

Go watch the RacerX post show, the fanboys of RD will love his comments.

Exactly. Well said.

OK, I haven't read all 5 pages of this mumbo-jumbo, and I'm not about to. But the comments I have read on this incident are ridiculous. I don't know what everyone else was watching, but as the camera shows him go off this face of the jump he is 100% holding his line. The line that just so happens to cross up to the inside on the landing. So any line that doesn't just go completely straight off a jump is crossing over in mid air, and a "dangerous maneuver"? Alright, see you in 40th place of your local D class. I see absolutely nothing wrong with jumping to the inside, it's been happening since the birth of motocross. Sure it was a bad deal. Both are lucky they walked away from it. And if Barcia would have swerved over on the face of the jump to block Dungey, it would be a completely different story. But re-watch the video, and you'll see that that is not the case.

You fella's wanna talk about crossing lines in the air, let's take a look at Villo's pass on Barcia I believe it was. Yup, the one in the S-bend turn where he JUMPS directly through the S-bend. How many lines did he cross in the air there? Every single line on the track, would be the appropriate answer. And I'm not dogging on Villo, these men are professionals, and are going to do what they feel necessary to win. And so be it.

I bet some of these guys don't even race, lmao! Barcia was totally at fault, he hit the jump at an angle was no where near the lapped ride, with Dungey right beside him.
. This is more of a common sense situation, no racing experience required. You have to be a complete dumbass to not be able see figure this one out,
great racing though.

I don't think cross jumping directly in front of someone is illegal in pro mx, but it seems dangerous no matter what level you race. Guys who do it to me get less respect as a racer and I have to be more cautious when trying to pass them. It takes away passing opportunities over jumps, is dangerous, and is a squirrely way to ride.

But, that's on a straightaway. Jumping from one side to another in order to make a better line into the following corner is fine and expected from a decent rider.

I'm not sure what happened with this incident, but there's no way Barcia didn't think he had the room to jump the way he did. Seems like a "that's racing" deal. Still, for all I know RD had good reason to be angry after the race. Gotta give the champ the benefit of the doubt.

Barcia admits here that he made a mistake and RD doesn't even mention it. Everyone needs to get over it, because they have.

Seriously, Dungey swore and gave the finger?! And here I was thinking Ryan was the Ned Flanders of motocross - not that there's anything wrong with that.

Come to think of it, I don't recall Ryan thanking one of his biggest sponsors in his podium speech. Man, he must have really been pissed. Maybe that's a good thing.

BamBam tried a 250 "racing incident" move in the 450 class. From what I saw, I don't think it worked out too well for him. Did someone see something else? Bet he thinks twice before he tries it again. That pretty much sums it up.

Exactly, Emig even commented that when Villo jumped accross the track that Barcia knew enough to let off because Villo was taking the line away.

No need to get personal and start name calling.

I'm not trying to make a big controversy. You and I just see this differently.

You call it a "mistake" and accept it as an unavoidable part of the sport.

I, on the other hand, hold people accountable for their actions and expect them to use their brain to avoid senseless crashes. I think Barcia knew exactly where Dungey was and purposely came over on him trying to pinch him off for the inside. Only problem was he underestimated just how close Dungey was and at the last second realized Dungey was going to land on him so he flinched hard in the opposite direction. Keep in mind, Barcia has a history of riding a little rough, aggressive, and out of control.

I just appreciate clean riders who let their speed and performance do the talking, like Dungey. Not as much of a fan of those that try to intimidate those around them with their craziness.

It's called a logical conclusion, with a bit of sarcasm thrown in.

Motokid40 posts a picture of exactly what can happen when people cross over in the air.

Exactly 3 posts later there is a post saying that people crossing over in the air is an unavoidable part of the sport and those that don't like it are probably not cut out for MX.

See where this is going......?????

Do I think it was an intentional bonehead maneuver, no. But it was nearly a really stupid maneuver. Would I be a bit PO'd if I were RD, yes. But in the big scheme of things it was not a big deal.

Yeah, I see it going to 5 pages of people arguing about something that happens all the time and didn't change a thing regarding the race results.

Just watched the 2nd moto apart from my pathetic performance. Iv heard all this talk about barcia cutting over on RD what bullshit!

Total racing incident IMO. Barcia actually crashed because he was trying so hard to miss Ryan. My 2 cents...
