I hear you guys are in the middle of some sort of heatwave over there. Please, everybody, take precautions. That goes for spectators and industry folk too.

We only wanna hear about results from LL's, not who suffered any heat related medical conditions OK...

If you are interested, we just posted a pretty comprehensive article on Racer X Virtual Trainer on how to stay cool at the races. Pretty good stuf that multiple trainers contributed to. Great info if you are riding or have a rider at Ponca or Lorettas.

CELLULAR PHONE RECEPTION
LL's is kind of in a valley, cellular reception is sketchy to non-existent.
AT&T typically performs best there for some reason
You can also sometimes get cellular reception up near stagecoach hill (the highest points on the property), but trackside or in the camping area (unless on stagecoach), forget it.

It looks like this may change. From this week's racerhead:
With help from Verizon and the whole Tennessee Region team, Loretta Lynn's should have excellent coverage. So make sure you stop by the Verizon Wireless store in nearby Waverly, Tennessee. We will have more info about the service and the store soon.

For most, that sucks based on customer service scores.

AT&T aquiring VZW will have zero immediate impact on reception of either company. They use totally different systems (until both transition to LTE over the next few years).


Likely what mxbum was talking about was portable cell sites. Usually mounted on trailers, they have an immediate and significant impact on local reception. Depending on how the roaming agreements are set up with Sprint, their customers may also benefit from having the VZW cell sites in the area too.

Just for the record, AT & T has NOT acquired Verizon, AT&T has acquired some of the rural areas, most likely as a reult of Verizon;s acquiring Alltel and some smaller regional carriars. AT&T has made a proposal to acquire T-Mobil's US operations (which Sprint is opposing). Here is a map of the effected areas.

From viewing the Verizon coverage map, it appears that V has increased its presence in the Waverly/Hurrican Mills area. Also, the fact that they now have a store in Waverly adds to this. (In the racerhead column, DC said more info will come,
I doubt that it is as simple as a portable repeater, as these have been available for years and for whatever reason none of the carriers have brought one out to the track.

LL's kitchen has changed for the better. Several years back different management had lower quality standards. Last year after much debate I was coerced into making the trip down there. The fried chicken, fish, cornbread, greens, mashed potatoes and deserts where all great. In '03 my experience there was disappointing and I swore I would never go back, I had been going there since '83 when it was across the highway.

I occasionally have great memories of Proud Mary's. I can't believe I have any memory of that place at all. It would be cool to expose some of the kid's and grandkid's to that since they have all now grown up.

Make sure you guys cheer for me in the Supermini 1 & 2 #15!!

i know i am not on the list for Supermini 2 because i DNF one of my motos at my regional but i did make it as an alternate because number 57 is not going!

exactly . there is no way verizon will be bought by at&t. they are already the biggest and are having problems with the feds with the size they are now and the whole monopoly thing going on. they bought out t mobile last year. we used to service verizon cell towers.
