How's being dead rank?

I went straight line on the operating table a couple of times when I lacerated my liver, severed my inferior vena cava and destroyed an adrenal gland.

I got a couple of blisters once when I got some new gloves. It was enough to make me sell my bike.

Mine wasn't so much one bad injury as several at once. A couple years ago I stuck the bike off line in a deep part of the track off a 60ft downhill double and went over the bars. Put a crack down the middle of C6 and C7 like Stroupe just did, put a crack at a 45 degree angle across my sternum, and tore my ACL/MCL. Before that my injuries had been pretty light for a guy doing this sport nearly 30 years. Couple broken wrists, a leg, tore up my knee once before.

WINNER - hands down!

I crashed hard on a steep downhill, went bonzai into some scraggy willows/small poplars, and ending up with a two inch, gaping punture hole in my thigh. It didn't bleed - just a black, quivering hole right to my bone. It made me sick to my stomach to look at it.

I have a total hip replacement, an ankle that needs to be fused, I broke my T6 and T7, I've collapsed both lungs at the same time, broken multiple ribs, tore my spleen and stomach, broke my left collarbone and shoulder, right humerus, sternum, had to have two blood transfusions. I'm probably missing some, but those are my most serious.........and I'm only 35. Oh, and I've had numerous concussions.

Crashed after the first turn, run over by 3-4 bikes. Concussion, broken ribs and a sore neck. After two weeks of chiropractic "care", my neck was still sore (worse, even)-so I went to see my orthopedic surgeon. He found that my neck was broken and he nearly broke the neck of the chiropractor I was going to.

I hear ya, after some of my really bad injuries I would tell myself "I'm done with this shit", but we just cant let it go. I have nothing but respect for the guys that were forced to stop because of injury, you guys are the fallen soldiers that we all need to keep in our thoughts.

Ortega Hwy 1986 Broken Shoulder ball, broken clavical, broken neck, broken tib + fib, 6" gash across my throat missin g my jugular by 1/8th inch, hamburger chest from asphalt. Crashed in the "carosel" part of the hwy at night.

Ocotillo Wells Thanksgiving 1999 just north of Gas Domes over the bars on that big right knoll hip jump. Two broken elbow tips (try sitting on the john with busted up elbows), punctured lung, concussion, broken ribs. Woke up from the crash started my bike and took off. All my friends couldn't find me. I don't remember, I just ended up at The Blu Inn with two chili dogs on a plate in front of me uneaten. They found me an hour later still sitting there staring at them.

My only mx accident, I was flagging at Saddleback Park when I was 14 or 15, I was about 20 feet from the track, it was the straight away after the finish line area, pass the jump headed towards the start area, my dad always told me, never have your back to the track and I didn't. I was watching the whole area to the turn so if anyone went down I was ready, well i watched a guy to the turn and as I was turning my head to go back to the other side I heard this weird noise, like rumbling as I finished turning my head I blacked out. When I came to, Jimmy Holley and Ricky Johnson were over my head laughing, along the side of the medical crew who were trying to remove my shirt to see if I had injuries, I was desperately trying to hit the emt from taking off my shirt. I was so embarrassed, this guy wadded, slid across the ground and hit me so hard, Ricky & Jimmy said it was the funniest thing they ever saw, but knew I was ok so they could tease me about it. Never saw it coming, just nailed me. Got up brushed myself off and went back to flagging =)

kaw rider, that's just fuckin gross!

Broken T1 and T2, wrist and hyper-extended foot....all at different times. I miss the game but don't miss the pain!

The foot was the worst, it had me throwing up and pissing my pants.

Was it really necessary to go to the doctor for that? A couple of band-aids would've taken care of of that.
