Thinking of J-Law got me thinking of the biggest wash-ups or flame-outs:

J-Law
Ben Townley
Broc Hepler (I hate to say it cause he's a really good guy)
Justin Buckelew
Micky Dymond

I'm sure there's others to add to the list

"Epic" fails with that list.

Lots of guys don't achieve all their potential seemed to hold for them. There's a ton of those guys, but few in the self-destuctive threw it away sub set.

I don't know who exactly is a legit wash up, because motocross is a sport where it takes being in incredible shape to perform at 100% and only a handful of riders can run up front for a long period of time. All of those riders ran up front.

Exactly FTE.

I see what Burn is saying - riders with a great deal of expectation/potential - but so many don't fulfill these expectations due to injury (RR17, Hepler, Buckelew). I really think that if Townley and Hepler could stay healthy and injury free for a few seasons, they could have won championships. If he categorized riders by "Injury" and "Wacko", Lawrence would be the only one I would put in the 'wacko' category.

We would have to have another category for AlessiWink

And Dymond doesn't deserve to be on any list other than the back-to-back national champion list.

You have to ask yourself. If they made it that far and they are wash ups, then what would you call someone who never came close to being at that level?

I believe the term is washout, not wash up, and 3 out of the 5 on the list are champions.

buttonfly, fonzie and henry are just as likely to be attacked by these guy's as hepler and townley and reynard.

Washed out = failed for lack of some necessary quality.

Exactly, when reading the header "Biggest wash-ups" Means to me , calling a person a looser.
I mentioned myself because I'd rather call myself a looser than call a "was" than a "never was" a looser

In my mind if you ride/rode or support the sport in anyway, you are never "washed up"

I went to the vitalmx members section and found quite a few of the biggest wash-ups. At the top of the list was burn1986. After that was anyone who listed a rider in this thread.
