I just got a call that Ricky just now left Struthers Suzuki-Kawasaki in Des Moines. I heard late last night, RC's handlers had called the owner to see if he could hang out and greet a few customers, instead of sitting in a motel.

In case you haven't heard, RC is racing at the new Iowa Speedway in Newton Iowa.

I got some stuff signed... including my 1998 #1 Splitfire Jersey previously worn by him, as well as his Number 1 MXDN plates!

at what point is RC going to get tired of running around in sh!t-kicker Iowa, in a no-name series, and get back to riding bikes.... if the NASCRAP guys had such faith in his car skills, he'd already be running a higher series by now..... to me, it looks like they are using him to get some cheap publicity, use his name for all it's worth, and eventually give the "good" ride to some gibberish speak'n southern kid with rich parents...

in my eyes, RC should be looking to CORR.... or, another NASCRAP team that it willing to put him into a better series.... or better yet, swing a leg back over a bike and go PWN the mx world like he always has.... any which way, he's just wasting time where he's at now if his real focus is to truly race cars....

Ricky is right where he should be. In a development series. The guys that race cars, don't just start out in a cup car. They grew up racing lower class cars, and slowly moved their way into those cars. There is no way to expect Ricky to be able to jump right into a cup car and start clicking off top 5's. The series he's in is the perfect place for him to learn those cars, how to adjust them, and how they react, without all of the pressure of the cup series.

Racing those cars isn't easy, and it takes time to learn to do it. Just like MX.

did MC screw around for years before getting a premium ride in CORR? did Pastrana screw around for years in some crap series before getting an awesome ride in rally? what about Wardy and his Indy ride??? no, they tested in the best, had enough raw talent to show themselves very competitive, and were given the full scoot rides....

heck, F1 has pulled drivers straight out of the carting scene right to the grid..

it's pretty easy to tell in mx who has it, and who doesn't (ever see RC or Bubba race their 80's?).... same thing applies in cars/trucks.. yes, years of screwing around in lower series will do nothing but good.... but really, RC is a bit old to be wasting much time... and he is wasting it right now....

Sorry Gibby! I'm not sure what's going on with my post or why it's messed up looking.

I tried to straighten it out but couldn't. I think there are a few little glitches still going on here. ?

I really hate the new quote function BTW.

gt80rider, STFU and come back whe you learn something about car racing, please.

1)Short course off road racing is a completely different type of driving then roundy round is.
Mcgrath has raced four wheeled vehicles before and done quiet well. Speed trucks, Long Beach Grand Prix ect, before he even tested in a Pro-2 truck.

2) Pastrana had raced cars before the Subaru ride also. He road raced a Porshe at Indy, for example.

3) Wardy didn't just jump into a IRL car and finish third at the Indy 500 after he retired from MX/SX at the end of 1992. He raced in the developmental series (Atlantic?) and showed promise there, before he got his shot. Which was the 1995 Indy 500 , but failed to make the 33 car field. Then in 1997, a full four years after he started his auto racing career, he got his "big" break and got a good ride for the Indy 500 and finished third.

He definately has a chance. I am going to check that out for sure. It the words of Wes Kain "Hold on to that thing son".
Man a crash at home on the bike could cost a car driver everything.

I think Wardy's first series was Indy Lites.

Damn, there's that Lites name again.

Oh, and I think gt80rider is trying to ensure a short posting career.

Anyone have a link to live results?

He also got the number 4.

Also, Kasey Kahne is scheduled to race this race...he just won a million bucks at NC - Lowes MS.

Lites, how could I forget that name lol. I didn't think it was "Atlantic", but it was the only name that came to mind.

Thank you, Gibby

Formula Atlantic was the CART development series before being changed to Indy Lites, and a different series with the same Lites name was the Indycar development series.

GT80: no driver has ever been pulled directly from karts into F1. Some have tested, but have never been thrown right into a race situation. They all have to run a development series.
