Anyone near a beach? I grew up near Venice, and saw a lot of strange people. What's the strangest thing you've ever seen? Anyone have stories?

I think most tourists look strange.

My favorite are the lobsters, typically British by origin.
They just fry themselves to a tomato red glow and spend the rest of their vacation in pain or puking from sun poisoning.

I got a drunk guy once to climb a palm tree, telling him it would make him "an honorary Floridian" and the fucker did it, then being drunk, he thought it would be cool to slide down the palm like a fire pole, while wearing shorts. I bet he didn't walk for a week, maybe a month

I live right by the beach in Carlsbad. Wierdest thing I ever saw was a dude taking his Komodo Dragon swimming - I shit you not. He'd let it go and the little bastard would swim round in a big arc back to him.

Didn't see it but a lifeguard friend of mine and the whole NB staff watched a gal service her male friend in front of the main guard buildings mirror window. Kind of under the NB pier. Not really strange.
Strange, I watched a guy sunbath with his shorts down around his ankles with hundreds of people around. He was laying belly down and was grinding away. It was in Honolulu, I called the Police just for the show. They made him pull his pants up, thats all.

On an easter Sunday one year I watched a guy eat 2 handfulls of sand at Stone Steps in Encinitas. Zonies in jacked up Nova's and cut off shorts a coffee in one hand, boogie board in the other and a Pall Mall dangling is pretty normal. Ok, only saw that once.

I think you're getting another type of lizard mixed up with Komodo Dragon's. They're a protected species and very unlikely to be kept as a pet. They're also big enough to consider humans food.

Your theory is uncomfortably logical.

In Costa Rica I came upon a camp of biologists studying turtles, their camp was something out of Robinson Caruso (sp).

Yeah, it depends where you're at. A lot of beaches are pretty normal, and peaceful. Others, it could be insane. The dude on the skateboard usually stops people and tells them that swerving is okay. It's ridiculously funny, because they're not expecting it.

Northern shore on Maui, known as Guard Rails, has nice waves for newbie surfers, like me. Our group was there and several yards away was a late-20s pair of couples and the boys were trying to learn to surf. It went on for a couple of hours and the chicks got annoyed and took off their tops and just sat there to see if the guys would notice. The guys took forever to notice and I got eye-strain trying to look without turning my head.

I once saw an Amish women get smacked with a wave while walking on the beach on the Outer Banks NC. She got nailed with it and drug back in with the tow going rolly polly on her ass with her back toward the ocean, stood up and took another that washed her in as she slid on her stomach to dry land. She looked like a wet noodle with her boots, soaking wet dress and bonnet riped to the front of her head while trying to stand up. I would have laughed if it was anybody but the fact that she was Amish in full Amish apparel just made it hilarious.

I rode a scooter through Thailand a few years ago. I took a ferry (large canoe with an engine) over to Koh Chum. It is an island within view of Koh Phi Phi (from the movie: The Beach) I was sitting on the beach watching the sunset. There's a large boulder buried in the sand protruding about a foot. Two kids on a clapped out step-through with no headlight came speeding along the beach. Because it was dusk, they didn't see the boulder and hit it dead on, flew about 20 feet. They stopped for a minute and took off again.

I sometimes see a guy with a metal detector that doesn't work. He just walks with it, and never see him actually dig.

That dude skating at the beach is more of a local legend than I thought:

I live near Venice, and always see interesting folks. That naked suit guy is pretty cool. I have never seen him, but I'm looking out.

If you ever see him, take a picture!

Anyone headed to the beach this weekend?

Back in 1980 was the last time I stopped by Venice beach. Saw a bum eating out of the garbage can,but he had a full pack of cigs,no light though. He asked another bum,a woman ,for a light, and she went into a full blown verbal beat down on the guy.

She had dreds down to her hips. I don't think her hair had seen a comb for years. Hollywood Boulevard was another freak fest, especially on the weekends.

Another strange thing I have seen. IN Costa Rica, the Corcavado National park is 800,000 hectares approx. . Surfing from a trimaran, after the session. I paddle to shore to go exploring. No inhabitants for hundreds of miles, the beach is littered with plastic debris at the mean high tide line. All from the trash thrown overboard from the boats coming through the Panama Canal.
That was pretty sobering.
