Awesome job Pete, especially for an obscure beast.
Beautiful, I have a Herc 250 I was pondering a similar effort. Nothing of your caliber! Fantastic job
He showed up on that bike to a local race in PA that my bros were racing at and laid waste to the field as you can imagine. I think the track was called Eagle Rock.
looks like a husky rear fender on Franks bike?
It does have that look. It isnt Preston Petty and its different than what the stock bikes came with.
I had the same thought some years back and even bought a bike. I started to cut, bend and add tubing to the frame. But then a house move gave me the time to unload some projects I was years from getting to.
I just thought I'd put this here.
Sachs and Hercules were intertwined - I think Sachs - well the conglomerate of companies it was part of it - bought Hercules in the early 60s.
There's a lot of footage in the above video of the Hercules Rotaries being ridden. They make quite the sound.
I've never owned a Rotary vehicle, I daresay I never will, but, I'm quite a 'mildly interested' fan of them.
Now, that may be from the delight I get in even mentioning 'Rotary' to my two V8 obsessed Drag Racing brothers - they basically foam at the mouth at the mention of them.
I've got a surprising amount of Mazda Rotaries in my funny little suburb. From utterly pristine, latest model / last models (we have a Lot of High end - as in Much More High End than RX8s etc - High Zoot vehicles here in our little suburb - it's a neat mix of Millionaires and 'average' households) , to a couple of groups of relatively (compared to me) young people that have some trick track day cars. Every now and then, they'll do some 'test runs' around the streets here, and I'm entertained by the catterwalling sound of them. They don't make a habit of it, which is a good, considerate thing. Last year I let the Rotary mob know of my 'facilities', and I've done a bit of fabrication for the youngsters. They are a great group of enthusiasts.
I do love the Sachs bikes - the bike as a whole is one of the most 'together' looking bikes of that era, but, it is especially especially the tank shape that appeals to me. . I followed, as much as it were possible in 'Jurassic Times', Frank Stacy on the Sachs. I think he used Thor Swingarms at times on the bike, too.
The rotary is always interesting. Constant mass turning in one direction. Pistons have to start and stop.
I did read they used a thor arm but never saw any pictures.
