What in the world is going on with these street take overs. Where a mob shows up and takes over a street/intersection for hours doing donuts all over the place and no consequences. Last week while sitting at my layover in my bus in Bellevue Washington a large group of young kids 11-14 years of age, I estimated to be right around 20 of them They were on those fat tired electric bikes, riding on both sides of the road and blew right thru an intersection that was red lighted, some had helmets on and some didn’t . About 10 minutes later when I left my layover I saw they had stopped at a Wendy’s as I drove by. Where are these kids parents and when did this become acceptable for kids  to be able to ride these bikes on the streets?  Anyone else seen this anywhere?

Its nothing new. Been happening for years. The parents might not know where the kids are riding . Seems more common in citys or more built up areas.

I was driving through Providence RI one night and saw some people on dirtbikes were on one of the major bridges on rt 95 or 195. It was around both. I think it was 195. Well they had blocked the bridge and  (from what I could see while driving past on an onramp) where taking turns riding wheelies .

The next day I saw the local news had reported on it. And the kids had happened to save somebody that was trying to jump off the bridge. They got stuck on a part of it not far down. And the wheelie boys worked together to get the person back up to a safe area. It was a few years ago so I dont remeber much more of the derails . I think 2 of them gave names and one sounded like it was made up to be funny.

There was a group of kids on dirtbikes and atvs that used ro be all over the place where I live. Blocking intersections for a minute or 2. But the police cracked down on them and its been about a year since I saw them riding by.

There is a bylaw in my city that allows people over 16 to ride dirtbikes or atvs on the street to and from trails. The kids were abusing it and last I heard the law was going to be changed.

Its more common for people to do the takeovers with cars than bikes.

There was a big one that used to happen on rt 95 in the boston area. Every year there was a group of people ,100s of them. I had a customer tell me about it and that they were going to go with their street legal bike to watch the crazyness. It was years ago .

They’re called takeovers. Happens in almost every Big city. They make announcements on private Snapchat accounts, or insta profiles to weed out the feds. Usually announced 24 hours before it happens and everyone shows up, with their cars and just act like dumbasses. A lot of dumb stuff happens there too, it’s reckless and there’s something called “get back or get smacked” where they do donuts over and over , and people try to get as close as possible without getting hit. Usually there’s someone who ends up getting ran over or hit really hard. People hanging out the windows and drinking. Pretty stupid.

It’s a problem down here, the little fuckers are fearless, they have no idea what they’re fucking with. And it goes further than just them taking themselves out by getting run over in traffic  We can’t ride on the beach trail anymore because the little fuckers fucked that up. And I just heard on the news this morning that LA is talking about banning electric bikes from the hiking trails, that is not a good sign for everybody around here that likes to mountain bike…

I see it as a form of self inflicted population control, hopefully it works.

This issue specifically came about during the early COVID lockdowns. Like so many other gifts we live with today.

Louisville refers to the impound lot as the Mopar lot and keeps passing more aggressive laws going after the vehicles for both takeovers and street racing. These idiots usually post themselves doing it on social media and it's bye bye forever to the challenger at that point. It's definitely helped. Tolerating this stuff is a choice.

Nah, we didn't have a lot of traffic where we lived in the 60s.

But, we sure as f**k had a Lot of Funnel Webs.

So, Dad's  (and Mum's) line was "Go Play with the Funnel Webs" !

Had one ( leisurely) crawling across my workshop floor a week ago - with me just wearing Flip Flops ( I've learned Not to say Thongs, as, with you blighters, that congers up other images  - yah Perverts!). Caught the Big Blighter and took him, well, probably Her,  to my local Hospital, as there's an appeal out for them.

I haven't seen the crowd that does donuts in the middle of the street but we do have roaming gangs of guys on those little lawn mower engine bikes. They ride on the sidewalks, up and down side streets. It pisses the old man in me off, but it looks like fun too.

What i do worry about is running one of these little trolls over and killing them.

This spring a couple of times i have seen guys on dirtbikes riding on major streets. Once it was a pair of guys on YZ250's the other time some kid on a KTM

Is this what our parents and neighbors thought of us when we were young?

We got in trouble all the time riding mini bikes around the neighborhood.  Now they are everywhere and nobody does anything, same with those throttled E-bikes.  I call them DUI bikes.

Just outside of Knoxville, on the southeast side,  is a huge wooded area that over time, and a huge effort, has been turned into an urban wilderness trail system.  Hikers and mt bikers come from all over to hike, and ride trails of varying skill levels.

Small eateries and satellite brewery shops have grown up around there. It's been a huge economic addition to the area.

Trails are monitored, and well maintained, by local mt bike groups.

A while back two moto e- bikes were seen poaching trails, riding when it was too wet, and generally ripping up trail beds.

They were finally ambushed, and a bit of justice was doled out, and they walked out without their bikes.

Same thing happened later when a few ATV riders were caught. Only that time the county sheriff dept was involved.

(No defunded police around here)

You gotta shut that bullshit down as soon as it starts up.

There's clandestine drag racing no doubt, but not the crap like the vid from NYC.

This sort of thing is happening so, so often now.  This one, appeared to get off lightly from such a collision.

A youngster on one of those ridiculous fat tyre 'delivery style' E MCs was absolutely splattered on my ( quiet suburban) corner, just recently, when he didn't stop / give way.

I've had to double my vigilance with my late night Bicycle rides, with idiots haring around with E Bikes and No lights. Me, I've ( I kid you not) 5 headlights, 6 taillights, a Reflective vest, and Reflective ankle  strips, and, pedals with Reflectors . And heck, I just realized my 29" street tyres have reflective walls. Whoever runs me over, will Not have  the excuse of  "I didn't See Him, Officer"

A few weeks ago while I was Crutching through Darling Harbour, there was a f**kwit absolutely pinning it on a Surron through the Crowded area - and I Mean PINNING it. When he stopped - and it wasn't a kid for once, he looked like an absolute Drug F**k, I had a word with him. My doing so enabled a couple of Cops to grab the P**k.

They, crappy E MCs through to Surrons,  are everywhere, and so many are really messing things up for others. It's almost guaranteed that the legit E Bikes / Pedelecs, will get caught up in future, probably Draconian, legislation.

That D**khead Surronster  was here in Sydney a few weeks / months ago, putting out videos of his idiocy. It was telling that the 'Meet' he had, starting under the Harbour Bridge at Wharf Bay, had a swarm of barely pubescent boys there, and then they went through the center of Sydney, disrupting the traffic. All the while the Pr*ck was holding his phone, and yabbering on, while riding. One of his worshippers turned up on a DRZ400SM, and  the 'hero', rode it - it looked like he could barely use the clutch and gears.

He attracted considerable attention from TV reportage, and, I think he exited the country, post haste. I wonder if he's been slapped with a Do Not Return Order?

I do hope people here do not think he's something 'special' - he's a F**kwit of the highest order, I reckon.

Thanks for posting that video! It’s exactly what I’m talking about. These people/kids think they can do whatever they want on the streets with no consequences from the police. These young kids a few years from even being old enough to possess a drivers license and have zero clue about traffic laws. Yet their parents buy them these bikes and probably have no clue what they’re doing on them.
