I hate acronyms.

To be honest I would rather have made the poll about FSM's competitor but that probably would have broken the rules. FSM might technically break the rules.

Correct. There is no empirical evidence for any of them. However, aren't you the guy that believes aliens exist without any empirical evidence?

Alien bacteria yes, it's been found anywhere there is liquid water on Earth, but I'm skeptical about an alien civilization visiting Earth in flying saucers.

There is no empirical evidence that alien bacteria exists. You would have to resort to "faith" that it exists which really isn't any different than people having faith in a god. Personally, I don't believe any of it until I see irrefutable empirical evidence proving it exists. But my standards are way different than most I suppose. What if god IS the aliens, or the aliens are god? Again, I would have to see irrefutable empirical evidence proving it for me to believe it. I suppose I cannot discount any possibility, even FSM. I guess in that regard I could have voted in the 1% column on all my polls instead of the 0%. But if I go on the premise that they don't exist until they do exist then 0% is still the correct choice (for me).

And I could argue, how can you believe in alien bacteria but not believe some would have evolved into advanced civilizations. I mean considering the vastness of the universe and the vastness (relative to us) of the timescale. The universe is over 13 billion years old. Earth is only 4 billion years old and complex life on earth is but a tiny recent blip of Earth's life, and that's after several extinction events. The oldest known planet that we have discovered is 13 billion years old. Surely with a high percentage of planets in the universe being older than Earth and the vast number of those planets there would be the right combination of elements for evolution.

Almost all of human advancements have happened in the last couple of hundred years and we are advancing exponentially. Do you know what percent 200 years is of 4 billion? 13 billion? Surely there must be civilizations out there so advanced that we can not even comprehend it. And still, we have found no evidence of even a bacteria outside of our own planet. There was a recent discovery where we thought we found signatures of life in the atmosphere of an exoplanet but it turns out they didn't do the math correctly (basically).

Of course all of this was asked by Fermi as I am sure you are well familiar with the Fermi Paradox. There are several proposed/possible answers to the Fermi Paradox and it's certainly interesting to think about, and I have thought about it a lot. My current view is they don't exist... until they do. I don't expect, or even want, to sway anyone one way or the other. It doesn't really matter in the end, and the end will come.

True, there is no empirical evidence for alien bacteria, or advanced alien civilizations, or the flying spaghetti monster, or a benevolent creator.

Even if evidence is found for any of these, somebody will have a conspiracy theory that the evidence is fake.

Don't forget Bigfoot. Smile That's why my vote went in the 0% column on all of the above. But certainly people should keep looking. There is always hope.

The evidence is all around you 24/7, it didn’t happen by chance. The things we see in nature all have complex intelligent design.

But it did happen by chance. And has happened in the past, is happening now, and will again in the future.  The universe is more vast than the human mind can comprehend. If the odds were 1 in a billion that life is a “happy accident”, then mathematically it’s is 100% likely to happen, due to the number of stars & planets in the universe. Even 1 in a trillion odds means it’s 100% guaranteed.  But this same vastness all but assures is that alien life will never be found on Earth.

Never is a strong word. Don't you think you have to consider the time scale? If we can advance as much as we have in just 1 or 2 hundred years, imagine how advanced we will be in a hundred more years, a thousand more years, a million more years, a billion more years. If life exists in other parts of the galaxy/universe surely some of that life has had billions of years head start on us. You would think there would be "some" obvious evidence of it. I do realize we're just a spec. Maybe one day we'll find evidence but it seems to me like there should be obvious evidence by now.

Yes, if “chance” is defined as a billion years of evolutionary advancement.  One could imagine that most planets capable of sustaining life barely evolve beyond very primitive forms. Our Earth just happened to have the right balance, over thousands of eons, to get where we are today.

We certain don’t have all the answers, but as mentioned earlier, our combined intellect is creating advancements at a geometric rate. The scientific evidence supporting the evolution of species cannot be ignored.

The thing about religion/god (and I'm not saying any of this pertains to you, and I am not trying to start anything with the believers) is that most people that are part of a religion reject most/all other religions. I'll pick on the Mormons here for no particular reason. Even though the Mormons believe in a god, roughly the same god that the Christians, Jews and Muslims all believe in, they probably have a hard time with the parts that make the Mormon religion different, the part about Joseph Smith and his golden plates. Most non Mormons find that story silly, but all religions have stories at least as silly as that.

Even if you are not religious, or follow one religion, but believe in a "higher power/creator" how do you define that creator?

I'm not much of a Carl Sagan fan but I thought this was an interesting answer to a related question:

I’ll respond like this….. Irregardless of religious beliefs. IMO , there is no way intelligent design can be ignored. You see it in the eco system, animals, humans, atmosphere, solar system and the list goes on and on ,not to mention how all these things work in harmony with one another. Then when you start breaking it down. Like for instance an Eagle and how its eye works .Billions of intricate parts and pieces again working in harmony and this is just one bird that is part of that harmony, actually more like trillions . Imo this is irrefutable proof that there is an intelligent designer, yes a Creator. “ Every house has a constructor “ As far as religions of this world, I’ll quote the bible where it says “that by their fruits you will recognize them” Matt 7:15-20 ……
