I live in Texas and you can instantly spot a northern visitor when you hear them say "I'd like some pop". All the Texans around look at 'em weird and shake their heads.
All carbonated beverages are COKE. Then your waitress asks "What kind?" "Oh, Dr Pepper!" and we're good.
And who in the fark calls a water fountain a "bubbler"? WEIRD.
This page has a bunch of other words for things that differ around the country.

Pop or Soda around these parts.
Soda seems to be getting more popular ever since the Mormons started opening Soda Bars....a Bar where they don't serve alcohol and they just mix together different sodas and flavors.
Pop equals Yankee. Everything is a Coke.
“you wanna Coke”?
”yea”.
”what kind”? 🤠
I'll have a soda.
Taylor Ham vs Pork Roll is a hot topic around here.

It’s the same in New Mexico. My wife is from Albuquerque.
us Utahns are simple-folk.
want a drink? - meaning coke, sprite, beer, vodka, water, OJ, etc
In my house, a drink is bourbon.
Show her this.

You want a soda.
Soda's an east and west coast thing, Pop is midwest, Coke comes from the south.
Its Taylor Ham DPR
Pretty much nailed it. Especially the EEEEEEEE.
WTF would you call a drink Coke and expect anything but a coke . Which for the record is subpar to pepsi.
that's correct. in the south they are ALL Referred to as COKE. Then you specify what kind of coke you want. Calling it pop or soda is entirely foreign in this neck of the woods!
Here in WI we don’t not say “pop”…
I typically ask for a Pepsi if I'm going to drink "pop" . Sometimes they say we have coke if that's OK. My problem is staying away from the stuff altogether ,I know it's terrible for me but I have a hard time not drinking it with dinner or while watching the races on a Saturday.
Soda.
Something I do not drink anymore...well, unless it's a splash in a cocktail.
Pepsi sucked. Used do drink Coke....but if I buy cola now, I don't support Coke.
Coke here comes with a mirror and a razor blade.
Why would you say you need a sawzall instead of a recip saw? Why would you say you need a skill saw when you need a circ saw?
Coke is the original and it was made here in Atlanta. So in the south, they're all cokes.
Pit Row
How about Chicago? Soda or pop?

Careful what you say, I grew up in the pepsi taste test generation,I remember who the clear winner was LOL.
It's different where I'm at. Everything is by its own name (Coke, Pepsi, 7UP, Sprite, Gatorade, Powerade, etc.)
Rarely ever hear pop or soda.
I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and we always said pop . Up here it's soda . I have assimilated to the culture somewhat in my old age but I still refuse to call a drinking fountain a bubbler .
If I'm offered a "drink" I'm expecting alcohol of some sort .
I'm with Mav. We all just say Coke for a Coke, Sprite for a Sprite etc.. I remember a giggle from the whole room last time I heard pop long long ago because I mean c"mon it's just adorable. Nice folks I'd guess.
Same here but also referred to as "soft drinks".
Sonics is a big deal. Cherry lime aid is her favorite. Luckily there’s a Sonics here in Washington. No Blake’s Lotaburger though.
Blake’s is only in NM. Allsup’s too, but there are a couple in Texas.
A couple things to add to that article . Growing up we had gym shoes , not tennis shoes or sneakers . Also here in Wisconsin at least add rummage , or rummage sale to the garage sale list .
