He for sure wants the bonuses leaving the mega dollar kawi deal to bet on himself, each podium, each win, each title is confirmation he made the right choice.
If he wasn’t a “euro” leaving a mega deal, blaming the bike; betting on himself, and immediately proving himself right with the podiums indoors and out, he would be a freaking legend.
It has to be a huge psychological advantage if he wins. Already unreasonably fast in the whoops, if he wins the “SX minus whoops” championship it would be hard to not to consider him a, if not “the” front runner for the SX championship.
I’m thinking he will be fine. I was wondering the same thing but also noticed while he was limping around and icing his wrist that he was analyzing the start gate and discussing lines choices after the race was over. He seems fully locked in on learning and growing as much as possible. Even if he doesn’t win this SMX Championship (which I think he will), he is going to be a menace next year. He is hungry and looking for an edge anywhere he can get it right now. I love to see it!
What you wrote reminds me of when Chad Reed (ironically also) left kawi to bet on himself and start his own team with immediate success. Kind of similar.
Edit: removed a word.

Are we ready to accept that Prado is Legit?
Think he still misses 0.5 sec race intensity. Hunter ran away pretty easy when needed just like the last SX races. Even if Prado matches Hunters best lap.
Going the full distance, beating the riders he beat? Has to be consiered legit. Hunter and Jett level?
Honda 27 will be just positive it sounds like. Will KTM even run the 2028? Havent heard anything about factory edition.
Prado is as good at starting (or better) as Hunter.
Prado is better (or as good) in the whoops as Hunter.
Prado in SX will be fine.
Jett? Lets see how the healing of the foot goes.
Here's something to ponder-
How many 'Total' Supercross races does Prado have under his belt? ..and he didn't race 250's.. went straight to the Alpha class.
It'd be kewl to see the stats.. How many total SX gate drops of each top 5 guys vs 'Silent J'
Kid is bad ass no doubt-
Not to mention 1000s of hours of training sx since amateurs and training facilities etc.
I'm in the "anyone but Prado" camp...after what he did at Kawi...just not trying, giving up, throwing the team under the bus...in my opinion there is just no acceptable excuse for that. I'm sure many will disagree, and I'm okay with that. But there is just no way I can ever be a fan of his riding after that.
Just drop it, the bike did not work (for him), extreme measures were taken. Not pretty but needed.
Fine is not the same .as Championship contender. He is in the discussion, but if Hunter and Jett just stay as is, Prado ain't going to make it without serious improvement.
One by one he is performing, but its putting it together for 20 at that tempo that is the uphill.
Rarely does Jett have a super fast lap time during 20 that seals the deal. That's not how he wins. He has the lowest average. Same with Hunter.
Prado might need another year trying to go full speed. I hope not because series needs it.
The leap he made this year from the last was massive. If he does half that again, he’s in the running. His starts alone make a hard argument for him being in this.
He is pretty much following the route of any talented rookie in the 450 class I guess, with some discount because no 250 SX experience.
First (real) year 2026, learn. Some injury, skip a race. Some brilliance. Don't have the stamina maybe for 20+2 SX race pace and inexperience with 450 track breaking down.
Second year (2027), try to be solid all the time, make it a season, some wins maybe.
Third year, Championship contender.
As I said, I hope he is in it already this year. Would be the best for the series, or we are looking at a Lawrence title again by may.
