Could Jett have been docked or DQ’d if that second HRC mechanic stepped in to help with that tire cover removal? Looked like the AMA guy stepped in very quickly to stop him from helping……
The rules states...
Only one of Jetts crew was touching Jett's bike one was on the gate, the other crew member was behind watching...
If anybody is going to be docked or fined, it would be Ferrandis who had 2 crew touching his bike on the gate...
Dean Wilson had 2 mechanics help set his holeshot device, one was from his crew...
one was from GasGas...
Because we needed another thread on this.....
Hmm, I would have thought congratulations would be in order. He did a fine job. Not the biggest Jett fan, but you have to tip your hat to him. He is good, even if people don't like him.
Guess the AMA doesn’t enforce that rule then…….haha. I don’t care one way or another, just wondered what the rule was. Feel bad for Breece though….dumping the clutch on the practice start and getting docked 2 spots.
The Shop
The AMA is inconsistent enforcing most rules, some riders are penalized for a rule, while other riders are not, there are many examples, just look at vitalmx's forum!
If I am not mistaken a rider was clipped for this last year and the penalty was positions.
It's not Jett people don't like. It's the obnoxious screaming little-girl fans (many of them over 40)
They're not gonna take away a win for their golden cash-cow.....
AMA are the ones responsible for rule enforcement, they are a non-profit, it's Feld and NASCAR Holdings who get the cash...
and bunch of them with mustaches...
uploader disabled embed. here's the clip of both techs touching the bike:

Well, I don’t know if it’s justified or not, but docking him one position would sure help out my fantasy picks…so I’m in favor of that. Is there a petition some place I can sign? Haha
I thought that after the debacle of Dungey having his race win scrapped, they stopped applying position docking to race winners?
He could be docked points, though. I'm surprised Star Racing didn't protest, given their track record.
I missed that angle...
I don't know if they ever stopped doing it, but if they did, they brought it back because Breece was dinged 2 positions last week (as OP pointed out above).
My question would be - please define "accompany to the starting gate". Is there a specified area inside which only one crew member can be present with the rider ? And, to me, you don't have to be touching the bike to be "accompanying" the rider. In my small mind, if you're right behind the bike (or even in the general vicinity), you're accompanying the rider.
Would love to see if there is a defined area that constitutes the "Starting Gate" in the rule book or if, like so many other AMA rules, it's a subjective call depending on who's involved.
From the rules...
I'd guess it means stepping over the line...
Pit Row
Could be. But I'd still like to see more specific language in their rule book to eliminate as much subjectivity as possible. Nothing more frustrating than arguing your innocence regarding a rule using an ambiguous word like "close" (nearby) or some other fuzzy language.
But hey, it's the AMA, I'm just kidding myself if I think that would ever happen willingly on their part.
I agree, the AMA's rulebook is not black and white, so much room for interpretation.
Look at what happens in F1, the FIM try to nail down everything with the rules, teams adhere to the letter of the rules, but creatively interpret the meaning.
When does the penalty report come out?
Took Jett to beat your favorite rider for people to acknowledge this rule.. Yet they didn't wanna bring it to light through the first half of this season with riders needing 2 mechanics just to push down the front end for the hole shot button or the 2 or 3 mechanics with 1 rider on the starts of the mud races.
Dont think this sport has ever seen so many people look for reasons and excuses for a riders success. And worst part is.. He is only 20. The same age, if not younger than majority of the 250 class.
Nothing wrong with being smart and finding loopholes - that's part of the game.
I remember reading something about fuel tanks in some form of auto racing having a specified maximum capacity. Some enterprising fellow used some large diameter hose from the fill port and wound it around and around before connecting it to the tank, resulting in it being able to hold a few extra gallons of fuel at refill.
Once they found it at tech inspection they couldn't penalize him because he hadn't violated any rules... but they rewrote the rule ASAP.
I am with you on fantasy, i had eli to win and jett second for rm fantasy, i got one guy correct i think.
Thursday probably.
Honestly I agree, especially because they tend to protest a lot of stuff.
Deegan has Duffy, his dad and 2 YouTubers on the gate most of the time.
Also rules state you can only have one crew member accompanying you.
So technically Duffy is the crew and the others don't touch the bike.
Also it says nothing about others crew helping.
So jett could have his mechanic, Hunters, dean's and ferrandis mechanic all working on his bike and he still hasn't broke a rule as he was only accompanied by his 1 mechanic.
Let's make it fuzzier -
Also rules state you can only have one crew member accompanying you... Also it says nothing about others crew helping.
However, it doesn't specify which crew they can belong to, only that there is a limit of one crew member. So, you can't have one of your crew and one of another crew without breaking the rule. Aaaand, I don't see where they define what a crew member is, so now you're assuming (and just stepped into their trap) and you still don't know what "accompany" means.
With all that ambiguous language, it sounds like you could be breaking the rules just by going to the gate if they decide they want to mess with you.
I like how they tried to make a deal that it’s good the mechanic didn’t panic. Uh….he was panicked as hell! Had he not kept rotating the tire forward it would have come off easy if he had just not…(that’s right) panicked.
Yeah that dude definitely panicked. When the shot cut away from the close up of them I was nervous as fuck thinking there's no way he's getting the start in time. Then you see him kinda get it with maybe 5 seconds to spare. Dude just brute forced it hoping that it worked out.
Absolute stupidity by HRC to risk changing wheels in such a short amount of time. They got lucky to get away with it and for Jett to not be put off by the drama.
