Well, that sucks.

That said, if Burnt Ridge reopened, I would be beyond stoked. I was off the bike from 13-18, and when I started back up I was really bummed to find it had closed.

How was/is Motowest? Never been there.

I thought the master plan for Motowest was to move the track across the highway behind the industrial park across from the airport where the new car track is allegedly going. Is that still the case? Or will they keep the track in the current location next to the drag strip for the time being?

If that gets turned into an equestrian or MTB park, I am going to lose my shit.  We have lost so many places to ride to urban growth (tracks too), this one is nowhere near an urban growth area, changing this to anything but what it currently is, that is a real kick in the dick to motorsports enthusiasts.  With how MTB stuff has evolved with the trails they have there, that is my first guess.

I have been racing there since 1986, this is a sad day.

Motowest has sucked in the past. Hardly open and prep wasn’t great. If they get the same crew from Grays they could make it decent. Like the other poster said, they talked about moving it and building the new road course so their plans could be either reshape the old track or build a new one, who knows. I wish they would just bring the ridge back.

Agreed on the Ridge. Only got to ride it for one season before that whole mess blew up.

Not much just something I heard at the old timers race at shougal that trulson's bought it back? The guy who does the pa announcing at the old timers was talking to someone about it and that's what it sounded like. He'd probably knows.

Just terrible news.  The main track was my favorite track and there was no place like it to teach kids how to ride and build up their confidence in a nice park like setting.  We loved it for riding for most of the day before heading to the coast for the afternoon and evening.  I'm trying to find an email where we can send letters talking about the family aspect and economic impact of the track in the county.  For now it looks like only phone numbers available.  Going to try to call early this week.

Maybe it is a misunderstanding and someone else will fun it (although doubtful).

The ridge got all messed up when the two partners decided they didnt want to work together and it went into receivership. The guy who was on the land side of the partnership is a dick.

There was an update from the County Commissioner that seems to be interesting.  It says the decision was made long ago in October 2021 and that while there is a study going on to review the park, they have not ruled out keeping it an ORV park.  The statement included that there were valid reasons the contract were not renewed that would be inappropriate to discuss on social media.  They also have an interested party in running it.  Fingers crossed.

As mentioned above, it was a great place to teach kids how to ride. What would be the closest place to the Seattle area now for teaching kids? We dig Horn Rapids, but its quite the drive for a day trip. Even a little pit bike track or field at the end of the parking lot. Haven't went to a lot of places because we don't want to be "those people" when its expected that you just ride on the big mx track and back to the truck and that's it.

Who cares about lots of tracks closing, let's talk about the latest drama with Ken Roczen. Just kidding

Riverdale is going to be your best next bet.  I actually think this is a better place to learn to ride than GHORV, there is more open/flat areas and their less ridden basic tracks are 100X better than the vet/practice track at GHORV for new riders.  Downside, it is about 2.5 hours from you, not as bad ad Horn Rapids, but not close either.  Tahuya is a great place to learn to ride too, but doesn't help us track guys.

It is sad there is no place to free ride anymore within an hour or even an hour and a half from the west side.  All of the areas around Ravensdale/Bonney Lake are getting houses put on them as well.  For reference, I learned how to ride at a place that was called 80 acres in the early 80s.  80 acres is now where Microsoft main campus now sits Sad

How can the County just take the public's land away? This is insane. Where is the AMA? Blue Ribbon Coalition?

California hasn't allowed new dirt bikes on ORV/SVRA public land for over a year. We're done.

I grew up riding there. Hopefully we can get the right people in position to make these decisions.

I remember those places like that less people around then too. Spoiled as a kid trails right outta the yard. Doing like what this kid is doing. And the neighbors wave as you rode by not give you stink eye or call the cops. Started running into problems around the mid 90's with neighbors.

Last like open place I rode was 116th st in Marysville. Just north of the outlet mall got shutdown in 2000. It was tribe land. Said oh closing due to salmon stream. They later built a outlet mall and Casio and big hotel on top of the steam.

Contact the county show support it's not total dead yet.

Kids of the 70’s 80's maybe early 90's can relate to this picture. I can because we did that even dressed that same way.

Have not heard the name 80 Acres in decades, used to ride there a lot. Also rode near Lake Desire, Newcastle, The Tank Tracks, West of Federal Way near the powerlines, Fairwood and countless other wide spots without a hassel!

I grew up in the Skyway area and could leave my house and ride so many wooded areas and never have an issue.

Ugh, super lame.  Hopefully it gets worked out and opens back up to riding again.

Does this mean all the trail network that you could access from there is closed too?

Correct me if I’m wrong (and I may be) but aren’t most of those trails sanctioned (with signs with a motorcycle on them) dnr trails like Tahuya? I know some of those around there are mtb only.

Broke my hand last time I was out there, fried my clutch the time before that and blew a run up the time before that. I think GHORV is not for me. Always have a good time down at Riverdale.

One can or perhaps used to be able to access the north end of the Capital Forrest Trail Net Work from Straddeline AKA Grays Harbor.....

The 1st picture is from Staddline when it was new in the late 60's early 70's. That is Montesa 250 that I raced in the Wa and Idaho TransAm events. The 2nd picture is a TransAm race at Puyallup 1971 Montesa Straddeline Page 002Soon after I was conscripted into the Army.Montesa Page 001

I'm not certain.  I've only ever ridden them when coming from the ORV Park.  So there are other ways to access that trail network?

Burnt was always so fun! I've really been hoping the rumors were true.

Sad that we are losing Gray's. There's not a lot of tracks that meet the quality that one has gotten to. it usually got rough and rutted. Horns recent revamp was really good and it got rough with how many people show there in the winter. I am hearing Riverdale is great lately too.

I have a friend telling me Motowest is about to undergo a lot of work, I hope that one rigs true too.

Never been but will definitely be the spot for me during Summer. Riverdale after May is just so damn dry and other tracks are very far away.

Not heard anything further supposedly smail was interested in taking over. Which I'm not thrilled hearing about dude just about ran pacific into the ground. It's gotten better since devol took over.

The only thing that would save Gray's is whoever takes it over if ever. Completely rebuilds the track with a whole new layout nothing of the old layout remained. There were jumps in the track that were 25 years old.

It got really stale the prep was okay at best and most of my friends didn't want to go there because of it. Especially when the ridge was running in Shelton.

Thanks for the info. Bummer.
im going to date myself a little. At one time many years ago the way previous management was working towards getting an ama certification. Hopefully someone will take over.

cheers
