I seen a video of a rider jumping off the track and absolutely blasting a mechanic or spectator in a Suzuki shirt. It looked pretty bad just seeing if he was OK or if anybody heard about it.
Cooksey covered it in his latest video, I know that’s a bad word around here but if you’re looking for info it’s available there.
Dude got blasted then the flagger almost got taken out shortly after.
Ouch!
I heard it was a photog. No spectator is getting to that spot. Spectator did get hit bad a couple years ago at Oak Tree hill when a bike went over the fence. Lawsuit happened but not sure what ever came of it.
The Shop
It was a BarX Suzuki mechanic, Tyler Michelson (spelling?). He broke both legs in the incident.

It was a mechanic for BarX Suzuki and an official.
That was nasty! GWS!
Sucks regardless. Hope he heals up ok. Shit happens so fast trackside. I feel safer on the track than standing next to it.
Unreal to see that. Hopefully hes got insurance but with these mechanics being W2 lot of them dont have great insurance or any at all.
Im sorry but this is a key issue with this country. If that man is working for a team, the team should be covering his medical expenses. Expecting a person to be self employed and cover themselves in a sport where the top riders drive around in Ferraris is absolutely absurd.
He might not be a factory mechanic but without these people the sport doesn’t happen.
Dam… hope that mechanic is ok… flagger not doing much on the backside of a downhill jump🤔
It’s fair to say things could be managed quite a bit better at these races.
Flagger didn't know if he should sh!t or wind his watch.
The guy was injured badly while at work. This is the exact scenario that Worker’s Compensation insurance is intended to cover.
i want to know who stationed that flagger on the backside of the jump. wasn't press day this time..,
My son-in-law watched the whole thing with probably the best vantage point (immediately in front of the drone operator setup). The rider overjumped the crap out of Big Moe and the flagger barely got out of the way. The mechanic was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Either way, the flagger started waving his flag like a wild man but no one could see him until they crested the hill at speed. Crappy deal. I was in the blue room, otherwise I would have seen it myself. The track official requested a statement from my son-in-law describing the incident.
You heard wrong
Pit Row
Sure, except what if someone is out of work, and has no medical insurance. Accidents and health issues happen regardless of your employment status. We can all poop on single payer but what then is the solution?
It's definitely F-d up how often a gofundme campaign gets started after an accident. I wish this dude the best. Hope he heals up quick and gets his medical bills handled.
He probably shit his pants and didn’t know what to do so he wound his watch.
Hope your healing process isn't too gnarly Tyler. That blows.
Get well soon.
- at least it wasn't both your arms eh
The person wasn’t out of work though. They are doing a job, got hurt whilst performing duties associated with that job, they should not have to worry about how they will pay for the care they need as a result.
If you ask me, someone out of work also shouldn’t have to worry about the cost of healthcare either but that’s one for another day!
That flagger is there for the double that followed this jump (the big one that Haiden did on press day) which was cut right after this practice.
The crash happened the second lap of practice, there was a flagger at the top of the jump and middle (you can see them at the beginning of the video) and there were blinking yellow lights on the face.
The first lap is wheels on the ground with all lights blinking...so it wouldn't shock me if the second rider who still jumps while flags and lights are on just though they hadn't taken them down yet as they just came off the wheels on the ground lap.
No surprise here. AP is a good dude.
Has the team/sponsors not stepped in to cover this?
You shouldn't take a gofundme to mean that someone isn't covered from a health insurance or job side of things. They might be or they might not be. Either way, anyone who has been through something like this can tell you there's just a lot of extra expense along the way. You run out of vacation time, short term disability only pays a certain % of salary if you have it at all, might not be able to work your side job, travel for medical care, spouse missing work to deal with it, etc etc..... lot goes into it even if it do have good insurance and an employer who treats you right.
Maybe it's time to not have 800 people with a credential standing wherever they want to stand during a race.
remember that kid that almost got blasted a couple years ago walking behind his dad (w/ credentials), who was walking AWAY from oncoming traffic? pretty sure it was hangtown too
Cheers to a full and speedy recovery mate.
