I’m looking for a new left side case for a 07 yz250 and was gonna buy a oem one off of Rocky Mountain but a few people told me I need to buy both, which doesn’t make sense because why would they sell them separately... any help is appreciated

Do you care about looks? Because I've seen others exactly like that easily repaired with Quik-aluminum or Quik-steel. It can actually be made to look pretty good as well with some careful sanding. And I think you can actually hide it behind the chain guard.

I believe(could be wrong) that the yz is one of the few bikes where the cases can be mismatched. Double check me on that though.

Also that is repairable by a good welder. Get ahold of ken oconnor racing. He might be able to help. Its cheaper than new cases.

Clayton Miller (Trick Engineering) did a fix for me in the same exact spot and it looked great. But if you want another case, don't worry about mis-matching cases, i've done it numerous times with no issues.

I just sent them to a local welder he said he’s gonna do what he can so I’m hoping it’ll be alright

If you're welder falls through, you can mix and match the cases. Any case from 02 and newer will work for your bike. 99-01 can also work if you are willing to do a minor modification, just drilling out the rear bushing to match the 02 and newer bikes with the larger swing arm pivot bolt. Lots of folks, including myself have any number of years mismatched cases.

May even be possible to pound out and swap the swing arm pivot bolt Collar

The pivot collars exterior diameter is also larger on 02 and newer so you cant just swap the collars.

The 02+ collars won't fit into the 99-01 cases unless you machine the 99-01 case to enlarge the hole that accepts the collar or reduce the exterior diameter of the 02+ collar. Going this route is a lot more work/time/effort/skills/tools than needed or many folks possess.

There is plenty of extra material, aka meat, to drill out the 99-01 collar safely to accept the 02+ swingarm pivot bolt and can be done by just about anyone with minimal mechanical skills and tools that most everyone has in their garage.

Done this numerous times and have first hand experience. Cool

The YZ is good to use either side as a replacement and no need for replacing them both.
