Micro drill bit chuck?

Just for kicks this winter, I decided to try my hand at revalving my forks, so I ordered a Race Tech Gold Valve kit. In my setup instructions, it tells me that I need to drill a 1.3mm hole in my rebound valve. Finding a pack of 1.3mm drill bit was a bit of a challenge, but now that I have them (found a set on EBay), I realized that they are too small for my drill chuck to grip. Anybody have any ideas on what tool I need to drill this hole?

Going to need a micro drill chuck in a drill press. I wouldn't even try it with a hand held drill. It doesn't take much to snap when they are that small.

Thanks for the advice. Any idea where I could find a micro drill bit chuck?

I imagine any of the home improvement stores would carry something. I work in a machine shop so I can't say I've ever had to buy one.

Walmart has them and Harbor freight also, about $10.00 . You will need to spin it fast so runout will be a problem , just keep moving the micro chuck around until it spins as true as possible.

A Dremel with a Chuck can be very useful. They, the chucks, can handle Tiny drills, with No runout, and, with a hole / port you are just enlarging, it's easy to do things accurately.

I have made various clamps to hold various pistons, but an easy way to hold the piston, without them, is to fit the piston, onto the 'tap' / piston rod. If you're working on the forks, I assume you've got clamps to hold the rod. But, bodgy mates of mine have just taped up rods, put them in soft jaws, or, with 'taps' with flats to them, just clamped them at that point.

I would suggest an ER8 collet holder with a 1/2” shank on it so it can fit in your drill press

Thanks for the advice! I don’t have access to a drill press, but I do have a Dremel. I bought the recommended Chuck at Menards for $10 and got my holes drilled without breaking a bit.

Do it by hand. You have no feel on a drill press with that small of a bit.
