Filter Oil - No Toil, Maxima FFT, etc

Hey guys,

I ran No Toil for a long time, but I always worried that it might not have been tacky enough (although I never had any issues). I change my air filter every ride so it probably doesn't matter, but I wanted to get some feedback on what you guys are running.

I ran Maxima FFT (blue stuff) for quite a while - it was very efficient (didn't need a ton - the bottle lasts a long time), but cleaning it is a PITA. On the one hand gas cleans it incredibly easy (but ruins the filter), I hate buying the dedicated cleaner because you go through it quite quickly and I hate paying $10 to clean my filter a few times. I guess ideally a parts washer with some sort of solvent would be the best way to go to clean filters...but I don't have one. So...I switched back to No Toil recently.

I just wash with detergent when I use No Toil which is very economical, but it still takes some time to really clean the filter with detergent.

No toil evolution and oxi clean to clean the filter.
I've use it in very dusty conditions in a three hour race. The outside of the filter was black, but the inside remained clean.
If you put it on right and allow enough dry time, it works well.

I won't use anything but No Toil, never any issues with dirt.

great luck with No Toil for the last 5 plus years. I use the original red oil and after you put it on it takes a few minutes to tack up. Cleaning is a breeze , throw about 6 or more filters in the wash machine on gentle/hot cycle with a few scoops of powder OxyClean.

I've run no toil for years with no problems....I would stay away from petroleum based oils since they create a fire Hazzard, disposal issues and it's really bad for your health handling all that stuff

Just because it isn't based on petroleum doesn't mean it isn't a fire hazard. Bio-based oils still burn and have similar, if not lower, flash/fire points than comparable petroleum oils. And if you are referring to the solvent containing products, the alcohol in No-Toil is typically more flammable than comparable light distillate petroleum oil solvents.

Disposal issues are exactly the same for petroleum and bio-based products. Aside from the alcohol, you are correct about handling though. Biobased oils aren't typically as harmful as some crude distillates are.

I've used Maxima FFT and Fab1 for years! Its all I use. I'm one of the few that doesn't use No-Toil. I just don't care for the stuff.

I got your back on this one. Been there done that with all the others. No Toil is awesome.

And another one. No-Toil red with Oxy-clean for over ten years and we run multiple bikes between three riders. Used on 50-450's and never had a filter based(allowing dirt in) engine failure, period..................

I've been running No Toil for years and love it. As far as cleaning- I'll do them first in a bucket of water with Oxi Clean. Then I'll throw them in the clothes washer> warm water> gentle cycle, again with Oxi Clean.
Come out PERFECT and no hassle!

Put the oil in some sort of squeeze bottle. (I use old honey bear bottles) and you will hardly use any at all. I tried a spray bottle and it works but the trigger is slow to return.

No more wasted oil. It gets exactly where it's needed.

Because the green version (evolution) uses a water based carrier, it's not flammable like an alcohol or petroleum based oil. The only down side is, it needs a longer drying time to dry out the carrier.
The evolution stuff is a no brainer as far as I'm concerned. I can load up a filter and clean them in the kitchen or laundry sink, no smell or mess and the wife doesn't complain. And I don't need to dispose of any cleaning chemicals.
