My good friend built a trick DR500 . It has RM wheels , custom seat and worked the engine. I love it. I wouldn't mind building one for myself.

This post inspired me to try to find my pictures of the Hallman / Enqvist 'Aberg' Suzuki. I've got a squillion of them, and the full MXA test, somewhere in my old 'puter, but was able to find these two on my new 'puter :

That's KYB 'A' kit suspension, of that era, by the way - their Airshock effort didn't last long.

The ad / brochure that that LH side picture was also used for :

And, one of The Trickest bikes to do the old 4 Stroke Nationals : the 'Works' Full Floater DR 'M' ridden by Koji Masuda, in the early eighties. So, so very trick. Down to the classic Alloy , pressed seam Works Suzuki tank.

Look at the width of the cradle and double downtubes they welded to the very, very short single downtube , on what I assume to be, a 'cut and shut' production Floater frame, or, perhaps, a Works one. Once again, I've a lot of other pictures of it, but it's in my retired computer, and, I'm a Computer Cretin, and may never recover my vast picture Library from it.

Sorry for the hi jack.

An early eighties DR500 was for sale a couple months ago up here in my area and when I started to think about the cost of actually building it I promptly forgot about it. But yes very cool bikes and anyone building such a beast is brave for sure. Same as with an HL, too rich for my blood..

The air box attracts my attention, is it just an oversize cover for a pod air filter?

Looks it, doesn't it?

Logical, really.

One of my XR Hybrids, a Twin Shocker that I had made an Alloy Swingarm with long Fox Factory Shocks for, that I'd laid down further, I had a Uni Filter Pod on it, and, used a cut / trimmed 2 Litre Coke Bottle ( actually, Not a Coke Bottle, with it's neck and wasted shaping, but a straight sided 2 litre 'something or other' bottle) as the Airbox / Splash shield.

It worked well - had the back of the rear fender as the 'back' of the airbox (like so many modern bikes have, at least partially) and it form fitted to the carb / Pod, plus, it's base height, made the bike a virtual Submarine.

People would see it when I had the seat off, thinking it was somewhat trick, and you'd see their gradual realization of what the 'airbox', had started life as.......... Woohoo What works (well), can be quite simple, at times. Whistling
