This getting old shit SUX!!!

I'm 63.5 and had Tennis Elbow Tendonitis for over 25 yrs in my rt elbow. The incident actually happened when I got clipped off a jump racing. Anyway it has progressively gotten worse over the years and I have learned to do a lot of things left-handed.

About 10 days ago I noticed my Left thumb popping (like it's out of joint) when I moved it and that now has turned into CONSTANT chronic pain! I cannot even open a Zip-lock bag for example and it is better to use my teeth!

I went for my first dirt bike ride last Friday and was CONCERNED the night before on how it would react. Thank Gawd for the sweet butter Hydraulic clutch on my KTM and while I noticed it--it wasn't too bad. My streetbike is another issue as the 01 FZ1 cable clutch is not so user friendly.

Just wondering if any of you guys have had it?

I guess the next thing is SHOTS and if that doesn't work SURGERY.

Every once in awhile i get this weird lock up on my right index finger and its happening more often, kinda just freezes and i cant move it for a second, its starting to happen more often and sorta getting freaked out over it. Might be the same thing? Its my trigger finger and like the tendon just locks up, hard to explain.

That’s trigger finger. The tendon that moves the finger slides through a sheath. The sheath gets smashed and the tendon can’t move freely. For me it was my middle finger, I did it after getting back into the gym and using dumbbells. After doing a few heavy sets, my middle finger wouldn’t release from the dumbbell. I had to manually pry it off with my other hand. I put it in a finger splint for a few weeks and it got better. I still went to the gym and just worked around it, but with the finger in the splint it looked like I was flipping everyone off while I was working out. Laughing

I never had any popping like the OP though.

I’ve had it before and have it right now. A cortisone shot in exactly the right place will give temporary relief for awhile but it comes back. I thought I read in here that someone had the surgery snd it was a simple out patient fix. If I remember right they said don’t even bother with the cortisone shot just get the surgery to fix it.

I’m getting trigger finger from Dupuytren‘s contracture. I posted about it a couple of years ago. Ligaments in the hand stiffening up. I’m 56.

Shots are definitely the best course of action. I recommend the Don Julio instead of a lesser-quality Tequila. Smile

Sorry man, hope you find a good way to manage it.

I'm 53 and have had trigger finger on three different fingers. The cortisone shot worked on two and had surgery on the third finger this past June.

It took a couple of months for the finger to get back to normal after surgery.

My wife and her mother both had trigger fingers in all and had surgery and a lot better now a few years later.

I actually had my thumb looked at on the 14th because it had locked up in a straight position. Was kind of painful if it popped to move in a different position.

The doctor gave me a steroid shot which was not fun!
He said there's a 70% chance will work and if not the 2nd shot will have a 30% chance of working after that it's surgery.

1st day or 2 it seemed like it did not do much and then after a few days I can move it now it's not locked up but is still popping if I move it but no pain like before, slight pain that will probably get worse.

It's definitely not right and I'm gonna wait to riding season is over out here and probably just go ahead and get the operation. I do not believe a second shot will work.

Can I tell you a story? I ended up getting it on both ring fingers and middle fingers. I had gone down on a second gate start and knew I was screwed because I was in +50 and the other class was Open B. My friend Travis was leading B so I tried to get out of the way as he caught me. I did by falling on a blind sand stepdown jump. The flagger was in the wrong position so Travis clears me and I see 2nd come off the jump and I shove my face into the sand and say a quick thank you for a great life. Get my back landed on at the top of my chest protector/helmet area. I surprisingly pop up and grab my bike and yank as I'm screaming at the flagger still oblivious looking up the track at the riders coming. Nice story eh? Fingers act up every now and then.

Update on my thumb.
Received the shot in January and it worked.
For the last 10 days or so it's BACK! Unsure

Riding season is around the corner and need to get it fixed right so I'm not gonna mess around with another shot and just get the surgery.

Sux getting OLD.

What’s your hydration level like? I find when I drop below 58%, my fingers start cramping and locking up.

Last year I had  Trigger Finger rectification done on 6 fingers - 3 on each hand.

I went through injections, that worked for only a few weeks.

For a bloke that works with his hands ( as well as my scone) , the trigger finger ( and before that, Carpal tunnel that needed surgery on both wrists), it became so bloody hard to do what I do. Hell, even driving a car became difficult.

So far the 6 fingers have returned to full use. I've the 2 thumbs to do now.

It's really weird to see what's going on with Trigger Finger - you think it's an obstruction in the joint, but watching the Ultra Sounds, you see a little 'Bubble' form at the base of the finger, partway into your palm. Said 'bubble' would 'pop', with the Trigger clicking. Well, on my Bear Paws, that's what was the problem.

So, six little wounds below each finger, rocking around for a week or so with Mittens as hands, and having fun with ablutions for a while.

Worked well, now to get the thumbs done, 2 new knees, at least one new Hip, and some more of my spine fused / reinforced. Our health system here - well, anywhere - is not perfect, but it's worked well for me. In the last few years, a whole bunch of operations, a Lot of time in Hospital, and I've had to pay buggerall for it - well, other than the taxes and Medical Insurance I've paid ( and still pay)  over 6 decades of working - fair enough, to my mind.  I do my part for society  by doing a Lot of volunteer work, nowadays : I appreciate what my Country  / Community and fellow Citizens do for me / all of us, and I want to give back .
