Yes I do. I have been on the Internet since around 1990 and there has been no BIG problems for that entire time. The nice thing about the Internet was that the government wasn't involved. I wasn't in favor of them getting involved when there weren't really any big problems. And yes, if you can't go to a Wifi provider, or a 4G provider, you can certainly go with Hughesnet if you don't like Comcast. How exactly has your Internet life been hampered since they repealed the law because if they're going to play shenanigans with you they might as well do it right now. And how was your Internet life any better after the law went into effect from before it went into effect?
No BIG problems for you. Unfortunately you're not a representative for the rest of the US population so I don't quite understand that argument. "How exactly has your Internet life been hampered since they repealed the law" - It's not even been a full day yet. Who publicly stated that if they didn't start throttling or changing pricing models on day one it wasn't going to happen? You're naive if you're expecting nothing negative to come from this.

Any of you right wing cheerleaders want to put together a logical argument as to why this is a good idea? Saying "I dont want the government fucking up the internet" is just not good enough. How did they fuck it up, what will this do better?
I don't seem to remember companies taking advantage of us before this law. You really have taking the bait that your left wing news sources have made up.

I actually see good points on both side of this one. Government always ends up turning the most simple and noble idea into an inefficient and bloated money suck that grows like a cancer becoming more inept and unproductive with each passing year. Chock fulla lazy, lackadaisical quota hired functionaries. But if you give the Corporations enough rein, they will milk every cent out of something, run it into the ground, doctor the books to hide their schemes while they screw the shareholders/investors, the actions of which inevitably causes havoc in the markets and resulting in the poor Taxpayer taking on even more debt as the SOBs get bailed out. And ultimately the devious corrupt pricks walk away with fortunes like we could never fathom and leave the carnage behind them. Zero fucks given, zero regrets. The movie 'Margin Call' perfectly illustrated that stuff and it is not an exaggeration.

Carlin said it best:

"But I'll tell you what they don't want. They don't want a population of citizens capable of critical thinking. They don't want well-informed, well-educated people capable of critical thinking. They're not interested in that. That doesn't help them. That's against their interests. They don't want people who are smart enough to sit around the kitchen table and figure out how badly they're getting fucked by a system that threw them overboard 30 fucking years ago."

Before the law there was the threat of fcc involvement if isp's started implenting shady practices. There was essentially a gentlemans agreement. This vote says that the fcc will not get in the way if the isp wants to throttle, block or charge more for certain services. The Net Neautrality rule basically maintained the internet as you said worked fine. Repealing it does not guarantee 2020 internet service will look like 2014 internet service.

All of this is speculation. The government is literally trying to get rid of big government that the Obama administration formed.

It's called preventative medicine.

I know it's a foreign concept in this country but people smarter than you and I saw what was coming (what companies were starting to do) and put things in place to prevent it.

Humans, especially in America, have shown that once something can be exploited we will exploit the shit out of it with little to no regard for those who live further down stream. We are in the situation we are as a nation because this has happened to nearly every industry and certainly everyone as important as the internet. Housing, healthcare, phone service, etc. When companies control these nessecities while remaining unchecked the consumers will always lose over a long enough timeline and those already facing financial hardships will lose even quicker.

More detail please. What was so cumbersome about the rules? How does repealing them make the internet a better place? The big government boogeyman argument has already been stated we can move on.

Yea we have moved on from big government boogeyman. That is why America voted in Trump. I'm sure you will state that the Russians won it for him though. That is what most liberal snowflakes run towards.

Pretty depressing isnt it? And while the Telepromoter King indeed signed that shit and made it official, if you follow the money it was Big Business and their corrupt ways that caused that entire debacle to begin with.

I admit that i do not really know much about what is going on with this issue, and i feel that it probably is not ultimately a good thing, but it seems to me that this is far bigger than anything our government can actually regulate or deregulate in the long run. I feel like companies like Amazon and Google are ultimately going to do what they are going to do and we are just along for the ride. Projects like Google loon and others would seem to make all of this moot?

All this back and forth Trump did this Obama did this seems relative and mostly just divisive. Why is the sky always falling for one side or the other.

I know what is going on, but you cannot argue with others on here because they read headlines and believe they know the whole story.

For people to think that internet companies are going to slow down the internet or not allow some to have access is just ignorant.

Name another industry that hasn't eventually taken advantage of lifted regulation.

I don't want the government regulating any industries in America. Government regulation is what has driven out many local farmers in my state and has created big mega farms. This is what has also created mega companies in this country. The American people is what is getting tired of franchises and in many areas are starting to shop at the local mom and pop stores.

Yep, until they screwed the pooch so bad that laws had to intervene and put a bridle on the bronc.

As much as I cant stand big government, if you are breathing clean air and drinking clean water, you can thank liberals for that. You leave that to Big Business they will poison everything in sight and never lose a moments sleep about it.

Ive seen that thrown around by supporters without a good example of how it will actually improve competition. As far as i can tell the argument is it will be easier to "recover costs for new networks". How do you recover costs? Charge people more. However those increased costs can be incurred with no addition of competition or improved services.

I have access to att or a local cable company that has been in business since the 80s. I have the local company, they survived thru 2015-2017.

This MAY allow smaller companies to enter the market, but it DEFINITELY grants existing companys new influence over what you pay for or what content is available.

Do you honestly think there's going to be more competition if Google Fiber can't even expand into new communities without trouble? The argument is that removing NN is going to allow the current set of ISP's to possibly make even more money with new pricing schemes.

That's pretty much how it goes and why regulations are a necessary evil.

I'm gonna go look for that movie.
