News reports severe bite injuries to his hand. I don't think he would be "hospitalized" if it didn't involve surgery. I'm surprised he held on to the dog after he got bit that hard.

Dogs are like family members to a lot of people. I'm one of them. Guess more people side with me than you, since they get rescued all the time.

I saw that. I was like "What the fuck are choppers doing right over the top of a dog trying to stay above water!?!" But then a guy jumped out. Good work.

Yeah, but you know, people are generous about what their tax money is spent on.

also those guys got some good "on the job" training for fast water rescue. Dont they practice this stuff and dont those practice sessions cost the same thing?

Just saw the dude on TV and he was laughing about the ordeal.

I really am glad that they got the dog out of the river because he had now where to go and the water level could have came up and the dog would have been in trouble.

With that said, the freaking water wasn't even knee deep. There were other ways to get that dog out of the river.

My living room critque: On tv they showed the fire dept on bridges above and below the dog. Wouldnt it have been easy to have lowered a small inflatable from the bridge up stream from the dog and lowered a guy into the boat and then had the guys on the bridge just let out line until the boat reached the area near the dog. The person (as long as the dog didnt run) could nab the dog and get back in the boat and then the line would be pulled until they got back to the bridge where they would have been lifted from the water.

And on tv it looked like it was only 3-4 inches of water. If a dog can walk or just sit there why couldn't a fire fighter or someone just walk out to it and get it. If the currant was so strong like people say there is no way a dog can sit there for as long as it did.

Or someone who just wants a handout. At least the dog can bring some joy to the world.

Im thinking it might have been the fact it was the "LA River" afterall .... not really famous for its mountain spring freshness. Probably got the fecal count of a septic tank. And add to that the fertalizers, pesticides, run off and industrial waste its no wonder they were taking their sweet time about getting their feet wet. Those bites might be the least of that firemans worries.
