I've said it a bunch, but this dude gave/gives Dungey more credit than people really understand! Class act and one of the greats! Screenshot from RV's IG feed tonight. For those unsure why I posted this, RD beat RV on this night in Minneapolis in 2013.

You are 100% correct, RV's a great champion, and that race got me jumping and screaming. My girlfriend wanted to send me to mental institution after she saw my reaction to that duel.

Charge that phone mate!

He was the only one ever to ride the bike so well, I mean especially for this.. He controlled rear wheel so well, power sliding, just turning basically with it.

It's crazy how good his technique was for how aggressive he rode. I miss watching that man race!

Bummed these two couldn't represent the USA at MXON other than 2011. Watching these two go at it in 2011 outdoors was great. Too bad Dungey had to follow Roger over to that turd KTM otherwise we would of seen more epic battles between these two.

This is the difference between RV and RC, and why I respect RV far more as a champ than RC.

When you hear RV reflect on his career, he elevates his competitors, is open about his mistakes and challenges, and gives more credit to his team than himself. RC does that, but only in a way to reflect how great he was, and when others bring up mistakes he made, he gets offended. Just go back a few years when he started commentating with Emig and listen to how he reacts any time Emig brought up one of RC's crashes or losses, even in a joking way. RC made it clear that joking about Emig's career was fine, but you can't bring up anything RC ever did wrong. It gets old after a while.

I really wish RV had just taken a year off, or a summer off to re-charge. Monster should have had a longer-term vision and allowed him to postpone the last year of his contract.

Still remember watching him on his supermini at horn rapids in 03

He was absolutely hauling

My dad even said better go get his signature because he's gonna go places so I did! He signed my xr 80 and gave me his old chain off his bike when I was 10 I was a super fan ever since!

My father even kept him behind him for almost 4 laps but no pics so "it didn't happen" Sad

Had to? So Dungy hasn't had any success on the KTM? It would be more accurate to say if RV hadn't retired we would have seen more epic battles between them.

That KTM was about as ready as that new Yamaha. Let's be real here nobody wanted to ride either bike at the time if they had to but Dungey follows Roger around by the coattail so ya IMO he took a step back in his career going there. The only reason he won the title in his first year on it was because RV was injured.

I see your point. But honestly. Rc is who he is because he's a fucking savage. He's got no time to hype up his competotion. Kinda like Jordan

RV always pushed it to the edge. Often times beyond as if channeling his inner HannahWoohoo Always baffled...and impressed me how Dungey remained so in control while hanging at that pace.

RV had a lot of great races and won a hell of a lot of championships. A lot of races where he just flat out whooped everyone badly. I still can't get over the way he rode at the 2007 MXoN's at Budd's. Just couldn't get a 250F around a track any faster than that.

A champion is only as great as his competition IMO.

Arvee won and won big with some serious competition.

Great rider.

The field was much deeper during RV's run compared to MC RC IMO so it's even that more impressive

RV I think had a mental edge during those 3 year where he won the SX title, but those two were always evenly matched. Both are two of the best ever. I don't think RV would have beat the RD of the last couple of years but it would have been close, but of course if RV was there maybe we wouldn't have seen the same RD. RV was Dungeys Kryptonite.

He had to have dreaded when RD got a good start with him. There's not going to be much relaxing with Dungey right behind you and Dungey isn't going to make a mistake. I like the mutual respect between those two.

I agree. It is mildly embarrassing to listen to. RC was great, but he is retired. He can give up the attitude now. Jeff Emig is extremely professional when talking about his past racing. Often joking about his mistakes and flaws. Doing that makes for good listening.

I know FTE shot this pic, but why does the rear wheel look like its floating?

But the post is misleading, as if he won.
Because that's what people will take from that photo.

Mildly? It's flat out cringe city. People who don't know who he is just say "wow, how did that guy get that job?"

I'll offer one Nicholas Wey.

I talked a lot of crap about RV when he was winning everything in sight, just because he had so many fanboys then that would get totally twisted if I or anybody else would doubt for a moment that he was Superman...but, really and truly that pic above says so much about what a freaking beast of a rider and champion Ryan Villopoto was. He just flat knew he could win, and rode the tires off that Kawasaki every time he got on a track. He retired with class too, no matter what anybody say. I agree with the OP in that RV was and is a class act.
