Who's next in line to possibly take the 2?

Maybe Webb if he wins outdoors? Cianciarulo? Martin already has a single digit. Is it available at the end of this season, or next?

Anyone who wins a national title. My guess is Webb. Martin has chosen 6, and for AC it would be a bit of a challenge this year. Although he is more than capable.

That's a tough one. I hope it is not chosen for a bit. Just seems like it should go to a multi title guy. And we don't have many of those without permanent numbers right now.

if you put ac up there, you may want to consider forkner as well. ac has yet to finish a season and forkner just looks very confident and fast. he's a wild card.

If he wins a national title he can drop the 17 and pick 2.

Only the number 1 plate carries more significance than the number 2 does. The number 2 was picked by Mc, the greatest SX rider in history and RV the second best SX rider in history. Anyone that chooses the number 2 has some big shoes to fill.

Agreed with your last sentence. Number 2 is a heavy number.

Forkner has yet to start one pro race. How about we let him get his feet wet before putting him into national champion contenders status.

Well, I...for one...like to remain very hopeful and would LOVE to see that number go to a kid that has New-School Speed; but, still has an "Old-School" method.

If that's alright with you?

that wasn't the point of my post. i'm aware that there are guys out there that have to be considered favourites and he is not one of them. but if people throw ac in the cc conversation than i think forkner should be included. ac has yet to proof he can run a whole series.

What exactly is " New-School Speed"? Sounds like something you just made up.

In testing he's as fast as his team-mates at SX. That's "New School"...

The way he got here...and the way he trains...and practices is very Old-School.

Multi title guys already have single digit career numbers considering you get them after you win 1 title(minus 250sx)...

i don't know who will get it but its kinda hard not to like Forkner kid got some speed and style i think he could be better than AC was when he turned pro. And lets not forget that AC kinda came out swinging in SX before he got hurt again.

My bet is on Forkner as i think AC would rather choose for his 92

Anybody think "the test rider" in question might still have some cameo's (a la Mc in '05) left in him? Hell, it'd be the same number. Fans would love it.

Anyone who picks #2 will have to have some big speed and some big nuts. Cooper is the only guy I see doing that, if he gets in position to so choose. Otherwise, I think #8 and #9 are available too?

i actually think webb is waiting for that #22 he said a view times that reed was the guy he looked up to.

no disrespect to bb4 but i guess he won't be anywhere near rc in the record books. point being, it's just a number after all. grab it as long as it is up for sale Grinning

Not sure if the rule has changed since 2006, but Stewart switched from 259 to 7 after 05 for a change of mojo.

Not saying he would want to but could Dean Wilson switch to number 2?
Since when he picked a career number after 2011 only number 6 and 8 were technically available as a single digit. And Langston still had ties to 8, so he stuck with 15. the next two years 4 then 3 opened up but the recent champ had first right to choose so Bagget became 4 after 2012 and Tomac became 3 after 2013.

Or if Trey or Roczen wanted to make a change. Although neither would probably do it because of the significance of their number.

Is there an official page on how the numbering system works in ms/sx?

I think it could be quite a while before we see another 2. There's not too many guys out there right now that I can see winning a national title that haven't already got either a career number, or a single digit number

you guys are already giving Austin number 2?

classic!!!

the kid hasn't raced raced a professional race yet. think of AC, Bell and a few others that were dominate in the amateurs before you give the number 2 away.

My comment has nothing to do with this thread, but RV is not the second best SX rider in history.

There should be a caveat that no one gets a permanent single digit number without contesting the 450sx and 450mx series. Ever.

Question - once you choose a career number your done correct? No turn backs right?

Of course we all know the rules are not set in stone and can be changed for riders who don't gain enough points to hold on to their numbers like Stewart. This is dirt bike racing. Not something scientific like bowling.

Personally I'd prefer to see guys like Trey and Kenny with single digits. I know they like those numbers and it's a career branding thing but I think the consistent title contenders should have single digit numbers.
