So i came on here about last week about how i'm in the market for a new bike. Well i still am and now i'm stuck between two options. Either the 2012 KTM150, or the 2012 RMZ250. Anyone on here have those bikes and can help me out on which to chose? Thanks.

What's your skill level, your age, your racing goals? Just riding, or racing? Racing moto or enduro? Need more info to get help on that one.

I'm teetering on the checkbook right now about a 2012 KTM 150. Jason at Cernic's shoots straight with no BS if you decide to do some googling....

Our 2008 KTM 144 is an absolute blast to ride and the build quality is top notch. Very well thought out bikes, simple to maintain and service. Although there are those who will be along shortly to bash the KTM, I have had no issues with ours.

I had an '08 KTM 144SX. I sold it.

Well, guess what? Everyone told me to keep it because I would miss it. They were right. I just went and bought another one a few days ago. My '08 was absolutely the most fun bike I have ever owned.

Newmann, you selling me my cone pipe back?

Have a '12 KTM 150SX and if you're not too hung up about racing then there's nothing more fun then hitting practice days with the 150SX. It's a great bike and so much damn fun!

The cone pipe is hangigng on a shelf as it won't work with any other silencer. The silencer that came with it, the perforated core fell apart and is out for repairs. We'll be keeping the 08 though even if a 12 shows up. Great bike.Smile

Those 150's are really cool bikes. If you're looking to have fun I'd go with that.

The KTM is the best choice IMO. . It's kind of a no-brainer. I thought it was gonna be something hard to decide.

I have a '12 150sx, only have about 6 hours on it, but like it a lot. Couple nit picking things I don't like are the design under the fenders, too many little grooves, etc to try and get dirt out of. I know you should clean the filter after each ride, but on other bikes if I go riding after a rain and look at the filter it still looks fairly clean. This bike, no matter the dust conditions the filter needs to be changed each ride, seems to get really dirty. Also, why two plugs to drain the tranny oil?? Doesn't like hairpin corners, other than that keep it on the pipe and you are good to go.

Why doesn't it like hairpin corners? Does is not handle as well in the tight stuff?

No, it handles great. Very light weight and flickable. Just in my laziness, hard to keep your momentum up in hairpin corners.

Theoretically you dont have two options, you only have ONE option.

The option is Either the KTM or the RMZ. ???

Well i'm an 18 year old novice rider and my main goal is to just go out on the track and have fun i don't really race competitively anymore. And i ride a lot of trails but also love being on the track. 5'10 170 pounds if that makes a difference. I went from a 125 two stroke to a 250 four stroke two years ago and feel like i went backwards in my riding. The 150 is getting such good reviews that it almost seems like it's a no brainer now.

You might even consider a KTM 200. The Husqvarna CR144 may also be a nice choice. I would go to each of these websites and look at all the models. If you've already had a 250 4-stroke then you know how they ride.

That is probably the Most-Wanted bike in the US right now, maybe 2nd to the 250SX. Dude, you are gonna have such a blast!

The only bike at Trey's house right now (besides championship bikes) is a CR250.

Pics? Of course, it would be nice to have some history on that bike. Smile

How's the recovery going? You think he'll make any of the outdoor rounds?

I am not going trying to be a debby downer at all but a 150 is a lot of work. It takes a lot of skill and work to keep that 150 in the high RPMs where it NEEDS to be. I rode a 2010 150 and had a blast on it but from lets say 0-6000 RPM it lugged and had no power. But then from 6000 RPM to the moon it had all the power and pull in the world. For a novice rider that is just looking to have fun but not be afraid of the bike, meaning no 450, I would say the RMZ250 might be your best option. I have a 125 that I play on but after about 2 weeks of riding it only I was tired of not having any power. Again the 150 will probably be fun for a while but to have that as your only bike and your olnly option might get tiresome.

That's a classic 2-stroke motor, though. One of the reasons 2-strokes enhance riding ability is because of the skills it takes to carry momentum and find faster lines around the track. You've got a very good point about trail riding, and in fact some 4-strokes are better for trail riding. However, I doubt an RMZ would be the best option for trails, versus modifying the 150 to suit the all around needs. Plus, you may have some cash left over to use on mods, versus the price of the RMZ.
