Just out of curiosity, do you guys who train on a regular basis know what your average resting heart rate is lately?

I've been doing a lot of cardio training the last six months and my average has gone from 60 down to 44, I kind of wanted to see where I am at as compared to other racers?

On the general chart it looks good, but since MX riders are some of the fittest people I figured I would see where I stack up.

I'm 59 BTW.

Well, for me at 24 years old. At my best I was hovering around 57 bpm, measured with Polar H10 strap. I noticed with the wrist based HRM, it was off +-5 bpm over the H10. Havent done much training specific to cardio, but I was running the main sorter at the warehouse I was working at. I had to run a lot so theres that. I could ride for 20+ min at a fast pace for me.

I don’t train as much as I’d like, but I wear my watch (Garmin) while I sleep to monitor my sleep time and I’m about 50 most of the night and when I wake up. I used to be in the mid 40’s when I was in my late 20’s-thru 30’s. I’m 43 now though, so I assume it goes up with age.. I’m not a lot less fit if any than I was 15 years ago when I raced a lot, so that’s all I have to go off.

Most elite endurance/aerobic male athletes are 30-45 resting heart rate.

Greg LeMond was once almost sent to cardiac intensive care after a routine check up because the doctor didn't realize that a resting heart rate of 30 beats per minute is considered relatively normal for an elite cyclist. Eddy Merckx was reported to have a resting heart rate in the mid to high 20s...but he had a weird heart issue. His resting heart rate was in the 40s even when he was a child...before he started training.

Average adult male, untrained, resting heart rate covers a very wide range...60-100.

What I find more interesting is the max you have ever seen. My max when I was a junior cyclist...doing interval training up a steep hill (full blown aerobic failure intervals) was 230-232. I would see that after finishing an interval...it was like 210 when I stopped pushing...then it continued to rise for about 15 seconds up to that level...then rapidly fall as I got out of O2 debt. I could never get to that rate during the interval. It was always just after I stopped pushing. I think it had to do with arteries relaxing, then the heart would "runaway" for a bit as resistance in your circulatory system dropped. Good times.

I got my first Polar back in 07, and I would regularly see 215+ during moto’s on my RM. I remember wondering how accurate that was and if the bike was interfering with the strap lol. Now, I rarely see over 180 when I feel like I’m pushing hard. If I’m training hard, I hardly see any red but during moto’s I’m pegged more than half the Moto which always surprises me. It’s really hard for me to duplicate my riding heart rate without riding...

38-42 during the night. Tracking it with my Oura ring.
After a good day of riding or racing it doesn't drop below 50 the whole night and the app shows me all kinds of warnings to go easy the next days lol

I just hit 67 eating a black bean crunch wrap supreme from TB. Bet I’ll hit 70 if I eat my daughters cinnamon twists, and a possible spike to 80 when she calls an asshole.

I think the highest I have gotten in the last year was about 178 during a 20 minute moto.

My doctor told me that the "220 minus your age" formula for determining Max Hr is really just a guideline, and that I should consider getting a Cardio stress test to determine my true max heart rate.

Same with me, when I do a moto on the motorcycle I can easily peg the rev limiter on my heart, but I can never get it that high by cycling or using the rower, no matter how hard I push.

That is why motocross is so gnarly.

I bounce between 37 -42. And yes, the couple hospital stays I've had they questioned it. I'm 44.

Bet they freak out too after your nights out!
39-41 and will get down to 37. Life has always been headspins after getting up off the floor or a recliner. 43 yrs.

Everybody has a different max heart rate and resting heart rate because everyone is wired differently and processes energy in different ways.

Keeping track of your data and comparing it to previous results is your best course of action to indicate improvement.

Comparing to other people, even ones you train with, isn't going to tell you much.

Food for thought.

Low 40’s for me, I do have difficulty at doctors offices explaining that it’s just normal for me.

My resting heart rate when I get up in the morning is usually 40-42, doctor’s office 46. Walking HR is 57 average.
My highest has been 202, race pace mid summer in Florida but average is 178 during a race.
I use a Polar HR chest strap for all data but my morning HR is the Apple 5 watch.

I was going to say the same thing. I had 8 surgeries one year and even after a few months of all of that, my resting heart rate was still about 42. The machines alarm is usually set on 50. I would put it off every time I started to relax. I remember having a long pre-op wait one time an I told them to set it on 40 if they didn't want to be bothered.
I don't know if I ever did it right or not but when I trained a lot and used to track it on my max was 204. I would try to stay in the 185 190 range while riding. If I was trying to do a fat burn jog I would have to stop and do a light power walk to keep it 165.
I remember reading that Mike Alessi claimed to have a resting rate of 28. That is amazing if true.

I check mine a couple times per month and it’s usually between 45-50 bpm. I’d say I’m in better than average shape but I’m not gonna run a mile without breathing hard.

I’ll be 62 on Friday and last EKG a month ago I clocked 52 bpm. Cardiologist told me to come back when I’m 90.

48 for me, age 61. Last time I was in the hospital ten years ago with two broken legs in six places, the night nurse commented that I was the only patient on her shift with normal vitals.

I track everything with Whoop — typically my RHR at night is 35-38, but that's highly mercurial dependent on a myriad of factors; something as innocuous as eating spicy food at night can kick that up.

FWIW I'm 38 and primarily a bicycle racer.
