i was washing my bike yesterday with this purple soap called zep industrial cleaner

it seemed like it was oxidizing my aluminum frame
then it left streeks on my forks

if you have any idea to help me get the streeks off my forks
it would be greatly appriciated

Not sandpaper, try the 3M green pads, then a big sticker. maybe a big Engine Ice sticker.

My son did the same on his 450X and we tried 3M pads plus many other chemicals and nothing worked, it seems that that stuff is caustic and it actually removed the finish (etched it) He now uses simple green like me! I think you're screwed but with time the etching seems to blend in or maybe we just don't notice it as much now.

You should be able to fix the frame with a mild abrasive. Go to the hardware store and get a maroon scotch bright pad (they are a little coarser than the green) and make sure you do the whole frame so it is consistent. just be sure to follow the grain of the metal.



The forks however are jacked. All that can be done is to have them refinished.

Just about any reputable Ano shop can handle the job. The only issue will be matching the color...It will never be the same as it was from the factory. I had mine done "pewter". Looks trick.

If you use Shout to clean your bike, you'll have the cleanest bike in town and you'll never have to worry about oxidizing aluminum parts. It's cheap too.

Bummer, I used the same thing mixed too strong on a semi and it removed the paint.

You washed your shit with something called Zep industrial, are you suprised at the results? I heard acetone works good on plastic...

BTW I found a new use for ProClean. I soaked all my filthy bolts and parts in it. SHINY New!

flarider is good and wont spam his own product. It took me a while to break down and get some, when I did I was sold!

If you want to remove all the anodizing you fucked up . Use some oven cleaner like Easy Off it strips anodizing like paint stripper.

10 years I have been using steel wool on my aluminum frames. Never had any rust problem. Cleans them purty.

You are worried about streaks on an off road bike that you normally get dirty?

Ride that bitch until the forks wear out, fall off, or look like you could put a string on them and join an archery club.

When you get ready to sell it use the one word answer to all expensive lessons in bike cleaning.
