I am really tired of all the jokes about moto kids being home schooled. Yes in the past it was not a common thing in America and a lot of the time it was joke.
Today things are totally different. There are numerous different ways to home school kids. There are some online programs that the standards are well above any public school and comparable to many high profile private schools.
God blessed us with the ability to send our kids to the nicest private school in the region. I got tired of the liberal politically correct BS. As long as I have the ability to send my kids to anything but a public school I plan too.
Public schools here can be a zoo sometimes. Kids have to walk through metal detectors and have one or more "resource police officers" present every day. Sounds like prison to me instead of "school."
My kids are enrolled in a combination of a small private school and online school. Officially they are home schooled. They do just as many hours of school or more than public schools. They are both ahead of public school standards in testing. My youngest scores in the top 97% in standardized testing.
The other kick on home school is "socialization" skills. Well that is where MX comes in. Between local friends and MX friends they have as much or more "socializing" time than "normal" school kids...
I am not knocking public school kids. I am just tired of people knocking "HOME SCHOOLED" kids! I enjoy knowing I have control of what my kids are taught. I also don't have to worry about presidential edicts....

But it really only takes a couple bad ones to give a bad name to the program.
I know many homeschooled kids and only a couple are good examples of the program. The reason is that their parents are committed to teaching and the moms don't work which gives her time to teach.
One thing missed about public school is that the kid can't move forward with their life until after graduation. Most homeschooled kids I know, at 15 years old think they are ready for the rest of their lives and want to move out, get married and so on....
Due to some unusual circumstances, such as being stuck in a wheelchair for nearly six months, I enrolled in an independent studies program when I was entering high school. I ended up graduating about a year early and outside of my time injured, which left me a wee bit bored of course, I don't regret it a bit. I was bullied non-stop through middle school and literally hated every moment I was at a regular school. Due to my extra time spent at the track I met all the contacts I have now, which eventually led me to my current gig. Not too bad of a road in retrospect.
Diversity, they both have friends of different racial and ethic backgrounds. They get it somewhere...

I first met his dad at Millville back in the 90's and did and intermission team race with Landon at the Dodge National when he was an MDK rider. I lost track of him after MDK folded and kept waiting for him to turn pro, but didn't know about the injury.

I hate when people running organized sports for kids start caring about report cards and grades.
They should know everyone plains out in the end, all you need is a good speech coach and everyone is only one course away from being a pro at anything.
Look at bagget for instance, he had no teeth and he rambled on and on , we could barely understand a word he said; Now he has a million $ smile, they knocked boomhauer right out of him and propelled him to an ambassador of the sport.
The next Rick Flair whooping home schooler is coming down the pipe line to further prove your point.
For socialization? Try a team sport.

Not what school they attended!
Here is what she wrote.......Last night I was honored to present the On Track School Class of 2016 at Loretta Lynn's with my good friend Tim Cotter who has been our Dean of Ceremonies for nine years now.
Tim was dressed in full cap and gown and welcomed the audience of proud parents, riders, teachers who traveled the globe to meet their students and 16 graduates along with their families with his inspirational commencement speech. "Yes, it's a different experience. Yes, it's outside the box. Yes, with mud between my toes I couldn't be more proud to present these hard working, dedicated students with a fully accredited college prep diploma in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee". Together with our motocross family we played the ceremonial music and honored them one by one.
Education is evolving and changing to better accommodate learners of the 21st century. Students who ride, surf, race, all surfaces need options. For that matter all students need options since a high percentage of students do not fit in a tradition school setting for various reasons. In the past sixteen years of sharing customized learning solutions with the motocross community I can shed some light on what is actually happening in regard to "homeschooling". On Track is a private, internationally accredited "distance learning school" providing students with full support from highly qualified teachers who have earned their credentials.
Not everyone can afford to enroll in a private school and may have to take matters in their own hands. With more support in donations from industry leaders we could help lower cost with scholarships and help more students.
Ten years ago parents at the track were skeptical about enrolling. Five years ago parents were considering it for high school. Three years ago parents weren't sure how to afford enrolling. This year parents of riders in grades K-12 knew they needed to make a change with their child's education in order to compete and have a better education.
Enlightening the mindset of our community is a top priority for me. Andrea
My little brother was the only one of us who went to college but he had no trouble getting a bachelor's in business with a 3.7gpa. He transferred twice chasing golf scholarships but he did a year at Louisiana tech and a couple years at Texas Westleyan.
Momma didn't raise no dummy!!! Lol
