Such shocking news. It does make the outdoors more interesting. Also makes me wonder if a 5peat is on his mind.

Villopoto Out for 2014 Motocross Title Defense

Irvine, Calif., (May 5, 2014) -- Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto will be unable to defend his 2013 AMA Pro Motocross Championship title after opting to get knee surgery to fix a lingering injury. Villopoto battled with the knee issue throughout the Monster Energy Supercross season, and after consulting his medical team, it was decided he will undergo surgery on his knee as soon as possible. Monster Energy Kawasaki has signed the 2013 Canadian Monster Energy Motocross Nationals Champion Brett Metcalfe to join Jake Weimer for the 2014 AMA Pro Motocross season.

“This is definitely not the news I wanted to hear from the doctors,” said Villopoto. “We have worked hard to be in position to win championships for Monster Energy Kawasaki and to not be able to race this summer is very disappointing. Going from a really great feeling after winning a fourth straight supercross title, to knowing I am going to spend the summer rehabbing a knee injury is devastating.”

“Obviously this is a big blow for the Monster Energy Kawasaki team,” said Kawasaki Senior Manager of Racing Reid Nordin. “Even with the injury Ryan has shown he is the top rider in our sport, but we are listening to his medical team to make sure he gets his knee fixed properly and he can compete for championships in 2015.”

Villopoto is coming off of a dominant Monster Energy Supercross season where the Poulsbo, Wash. native joined “The King of Supercross” Jeremy McGrath as only the second rider to ever win four consecutive supercross championships.

On the bright side it's a good thing because it actually give somebody else a chance to win. RV is undefeated outdoors nothing would have been different this year. Stewart actually has a shot! Pinch

But why did he say just days ago "as of now I'm in for the outdoors" knowing he wasn't gonna race? That shit is annoying. Douche move by RV.

Original post was edited so I edited my post. Thanks for a source though. The original post just said "Stewart has a chance". I'm not surprIsed but I don't believe anything until a credible source releases it. Anything else is speculation or something a rider might be seriously considering but hasn't officially decided.

Oh man I wonder how they worked that out with Metcalfe... pretty cool that they could get him out of his contracts and make a deal less than 5 hours after RV's doctor appointment...

"I did not have sexual intercourse with that woman."

You say something with enough emphasis and people will believe it, even though your teeth are brown because of the bullshit coming out of your mouth. And not you, berno...talking about RV2.

I'm curious as to when he injured it. He knew damn well when it happened. All I can say is it adds to his resume that he can push through that. He took a LONG time to get up from his little corner spill in Detroit or Houston. I'm wondering if there was more to that than he let on.

I hope a healthy CR22 can make a run for the title. Also very curious to see how MA800 can do. Seems to have improved quite a bit in sx and everyone knows he's an outdoor guy.

Hey Uncle...can you tell us when he hurt his knee? And which knee is it?

All you guys calling RV a douche don't understand what contracts, and some other stuff, are all about. He said what he had to say.

He has to do what he has to do. If he has a knee injury, the outdoors will kill it. He's the most boring champion, with the way he acts about it. But he is the best. To me he's just not likeable. It's good. He gets fixed and win his 5th, and we get a better summer series.

I have two words for you my friend...Trey Canard.

Would like nothing better than to see Trey kick everyone's ass this Summer.

I loved Stanton, but to say RV2 is the most boring champion does the Wolverine no justice in that department.
