Is it really necessary?

Event Finish Summary
2008 AMA National Amateur Motocross Championship - 8/2/2008 - Hurricane Mills, TN
Class Number Brand Moto 1 Moto 2 Moto 3 Class Finish
85 (12-13) Stock #63 SUZ 30th 32nd DNS 42nd
85 (12-13) Modified #63 SUZ 32nd 19th 31st 29th

I don't know the kid or the family at all, and definitely not meant to be an attack on them at all. Just curious of everyone's thoughts. It has me shaking my head, but then I think, if I could provide my son that when he's old enough to ride, I wonder if I would?

I think the simple answer is no, it's not necessary.

It's been two years since the results that you posted. Any updates? With this kind of support, I would expect top results or I'd pack it in.

"Living through your kid" comes to mind.

I'm jealous... but....I can't believe they have old gas cans and no graphics on all the bikes.... and who doesn't have enough sprockets, they are abusing this mechanic making him take old sprockets off other wheels.

It's pretty crazy walking through the pits at amateur nationals these days. They are more impressive than the pro pits were in the late 80's and early 90's. Completely unnecessary, but impressive.

not necessary. Did he crash in every moto or something?

Not necessary but lets face it, if any of us could do it for our kids we would or if we were the kid we would be loving it.

I disagree. I dont think there are too many people who if they had the means, would blow it. If I was a kid, I would be stressed knowing my parents spent tons of money for me to finish almost dead last

I looked up last years LL results and they were all DNS, so I'm guessing he qualified but was injured? Obviously wasn't a money issue getting there. I figured 6 motos was a pretty good gauge. He's not slow by any means, and even to qualify for Loretta's in the 12-13 classes you have to rip, but with the set up I figured he had to have some support from Suzuki... but not with those results. Which simply means, deep pockets. Again, just using this as an example, not trying to call out 1 kid or family.

Jealous? I sure am! I'd love to be able to provide that for my son; however, I do think it'd be done in a bit of moderation.

Completely unnecessary. I'd feel way too spoiled if I was the kid.

What do you mean? It seems they have the means and are making it happen for their kid. Now if they have 6 mortgages on their house to support the kid then they are blowing it. If that isn't the case who are we to judge how they spend their money. Should they go buy a $120K Sand Limo and hang out at the dunes?

Maybe he isn't finishing last any more:

A giant motor home, mutiple bikes, mechanic, trailer behind the motor home, and all that to me, is blowing money if youre not a top contender at LL. Im not questioning if they have the means or not, I have no idea, I just dont understand why someone would spend so much to get the results they have

I looked up his 2009 results. Looks like they qualified, signed up and paid but he was listed as a DNS every moto.

Maybe they are in it for the FUN of the sport? You can go to your local track and see a set up like that, maybe sans the mechanic. If you consider it blowing money so be it. I feel the same way but people blow money on all kinds of stuff that I wouldn't drop a dime on and I try not to judge them.

Found some results from Oak Hill. Maybe that week at Loretta's was a fluke? Not doubting the talent or the speed, but the vibe of the website and videos just drives me insane. I wonder if LeBron James was like this playing basketball in middle school, or if this is only in MX?

My answer to the question is it necessary is no IMO. But at the same time if you have the money to blow why not go big. Sure if you're going without to go that big I think it's stupid but I don't think this family is going without. If I had a bunch of extra money I'd go big. I would love to be able to give my kid all the advantages I didn't have.

Who cares? The dad has the means and is doing what he feels him and his son wants.... nothing at all wrong with it!!!!

At least he didn't say something like "if the kid doesn't win, we don't eat"...

If they enjoy it and want to spend there money on it then let them. Not our place to say anything. Not uncommon to have a few bikes like that with a trailer and to get involved.

I agree. Plus, by them spending tons of money on "the sport", it does nothing but help "the sport"....

I know a few guys like that, but I am not going to lie.....I would do the same thing if I had the means. I was hoping to win the lotto last night to order a rig like that.
