Sx is a great show, in turns of the layout, fans, air time etc. But when you consider the very high risk involved is it really worth the potential injuries ?
Im not saying it shouldn't happen, but for the most talented elite riders I would prefer to watch them battle a real motocross track, over a long season.
After a few laps SX usually becomes a procession of hopping riders, the slightest error for what ever reason & you can risk your whole year, even career.
Personally I would rather see the worlds best all ride together outdoors. Save SX for the specialists.

Roczen never got injured in a national race on the US.
In fact before his injuries in the 2015 sx series he hasn't missed a single race in his pro career (which started in 2009).
It's not like he made a huge mistake that broke his arm, they are just riding that much on the limit that a minor thing can have huge consequences
I personally would prefer to see a longer outdoor season and then have a few bolt on SX rounds at the end of the season like what happens in the GP's but we all know that's not going to happen. I do enjoy SX but it does become a snooze fest after about 5 rounds..

DeCal Works Huge Plastic Inventory of UFO and Polisport kits.
Whats more, jumps get tiresome and are over-rated anyway.
And look at the GPs. 19(?) rounds all over the world with different cultures, soils, layouts and weathers. There are just as many injuries in the GPs as in US racing.
Local tracks have learned this, don't design stuff to hurt your customers.
As far as safety, that is up to the riders to figure out.
MX and SX has always taken the stance "well don't do it if you can't do it"
The jump fix a couple weeks ago after people got hurt is the first time I remember them making a change on air and explaining it. That was really good to do on their part.
I wonder if (when the conditions dictate) the track builders could integrate some kind of mesh into the jump faces, be it a thick interlocking rubber mesh or composite, to help maintain the integrity of the jumps. Yea, yea, I know, pussificaition of mx. The neanderthals will hate this idea--or any idea for that matter--that might actually benefit the riders well being.
These guys ride a thin line as it is, no need to make it thinner.
Pit Row
Every year its the same ole thing. We lose a bunch of riders and someone runs away with the title. We havent even gotten to week 4 and its already started.
It's one thing when two riders are bashing bars for 30 mins & one makes a mistake a gets injured.
What bugs me about SX, there just hopping thru jumps sections all on their own when one slight imperfection with the state of the jump & we dont get the chance to see a battle, hell that might be the last time we see the rider.
Its not helping with the actual racing, its becoming like an xgames event.
Also see Bogle incident.
Marvin very nearly ruined his season previous round.
If you think the risks are the same you need to open your eyes.
