I decided to take my new HD GoPro out for a spin and thought I'd share. I was sick and the conditions were crap (Plus I was alone! Don't do that kids!), so I only did a few laps. Even still, I got footage from the side and top of my helmet. Plus chest mounted.

Pretty nice so far. Raw files look awesome on HDTV.

Looks good! I have been playing with mine for about a month.

A few tips...use the tall mount for the camera on the helmet and the visor will be out of the shot...aim the camera a tad higher.

Also, use rainex on the lense and it will be much better in the rain.

I need to get a better computer and learn editing software with this new toy!

That chest mount is great...I need to get one for skiing.

Great footage! I liked the side of the helmet view, was cool to see your foot come out in the turns and your hand clutching it too. Would be awesome if the big boys ran something like that in the supercross so we could see how they work their bikes too. They need some different camera views to liven up the TV coverage for sure.

Your video looks great! Have you seen this video below? It's amazing how good these things film, being so small and cheap....

I want one, but wasn't sure if I needed HD or nor. but after wathing this, don't make sense to buy a lesser one. especially everything in the house is HD nowdays.

What compression settings did you use before uploading?

Thanks for the tips guys.

I have to say the side mount was probably my favorite view too. I'd really like to find a way to mount it below my vision without messing up my vision. that would probably be a nice spot if I could figure it out.... and I'll have all winter, so I'll get it done. Cool

At the trade show I was at where I purchased mine last month, they had one mounted to the handle bars pointing up at the rider during some high speed woods action...it was awesome!

Well I'm a new to video editing, but this is what I found worked for this video here.....

1) Shot clips in 960p
2) Put clips together using Apple iMovie. Then exported the movie in Full Quality to a *.mov file. this made a huge 3.3 GB file. My goal was to get this under 1 GB with some space to spare (YouTube allows up to 2 GB )
3) Converted and compressed the *.mov file to a *.f4v flash file using Adobe Media Encoder
4) For the settings there:
- I brought the resolution down to 720p (1280x720).
- Frame Rate to Same as Source (should have been 29.97)
- Bitrate Encoding to VBR 2
- Set my Target Bitrate at 21.36 Mbps (probably could have gone lower)
- Audio was AAC, 128 kbps, 44.1 kHz, stereo

This gave me a file that was under a GB at 999MB .... then just began the converting and waited.

For you guys that are using the HD goPro , how much HD video can you get at one time? If a guy wanted to shoot lets say 1 to 2 hours of HD video , what would he need? I'm just wondering if it's wise to buy extra little sim cards , hard drives or whatever they use to be able to shoot a bunch of video , or just take a laptop with you , and upload the video after about 10 minutes of recording. The video clarity on that little HD GoPro is amazing to say the least!

That little sand track is in Taberg, NY, right on 69. There's a gravel yard right next to the Nice N Easy gas station. The track is right in back of there. It's nothing spectacular as you can see but its a place to ride.

Question: What happens when you take a tumble with one of those ... on either the side or top of your lid? Do they have some sort of armored case around them? Break-away mount?

Or would it be bye-bye camera if you land on your head?

I think this HD GoPro would be perfect for another hobby i'm into. I'm into flying giant scale RC aerobatic airplanes ( 7-10' wingspan 50cc - 170cc) . There are some good videos of guys using other cameras for doing this as well. But i think this HD GoPro would be awesome! Great videos BTW you guys. Thanks for sharing.

They are fairly sturdy, a lot of the local cross country guys run them and they get knocked off helmets constantly. Everytime someone gets one back from off the trail it not only still works fine, it's still filming. It comes with a waterproof case that protects the camera itself, but it seems pretty resistant to damage.
