I'm not at all fine with him racing the lites class in 2012. I admire his talant, but he belongs in the 450 class. They should really have a limit on the number of years you can ride the lites class or perhaps an age limit like the gps.

Whoever it was last night that said he was a quitter, did you watch the races? Dude gutted it out.

Whoever the guy was that implied that he doesn't train, did you watch the races? More importantly, did you listen? Even more important, did you comprehend?

I'm not talking shit about Hanson, one person said he was fine with Hanson racing lites another year and I disagreed. Sipes, rattray and I'm sure I'm forgetting another or so, should be in the premier class. Tickle should have about one more year....

he would not be breaking any rules,if he stayed in lites another yr.so whats the beef.
sounds like the issue is with the rule book not the riders.
dont hate the players, hate the game.lol

If being a lites champ continues to be more important than a top-ten in premier class, then riders and teams will continue to sand-bag for money and exposure. Top-ten in premier class should pay more and have more tv exposure than the support class champ. Forget about what size the bike is, some 18 yr. olds would do better on a 500, while some 28 yr. olds could do better on a smaller bike. Premier class, any size bike, most exposure and money. Support class, any size bike and just a touch of exposure, decent money for all good pros though.

the way i see it, if the rules were revised....
250 lites would have a riders weight limit.
but on another note, if somebody told me i was not allowed to race a certain size bike that i thoroughly enjoyed,i would be pissed.
i miss the pro 125 class specialists, like barnett, etc!

I say let everyone ride both classes! We then would never mention Hansen. Otherwise have an age limit/years in class etc. That is if they want it to be a stepping stone class. Hell, make a Over 21 class. This would also draw some more fans and attention. I would also put in a rule that says if you don't race outdoors, your not eligible to race supercross.

Hansen gutted out a decent finish with a waffled up hand. I have two good hands and cant hang on.

Some people think it's up to the rider which class he races in. Sponsors dictate that for guys like Hansen. Why would he move to the 450 class, lose most of his sponsorship, and become a struggling privateer? Until the rules are changed he's doing nothing wrong.

If the Lites cllass forced guys like Hanny up to the 450 class, the 450 class would suck. Guys like Hanny won't ride mid-pack for too long when they aren't making enough money. They will secure a qualifying spot in the main and then just ride around for years and not take any chances.

Not his fault or Sipes for that matter. You can't blame the guys for making the eligibility the rules. They are just dong what they 'are allowed to do'.

Apples and oranges. Until this year Sipes had never won a race. Hansen has won races in 2004, 2005, 2010 and 2011, and tied on points for the 250 east championship back in 2005. This is not my crusade against Hansen, it also drove me nuts when Langston and Ramsey and other seasoned vets kept dropping back down to race 250f's. Hansen just happens to be the latest in a long line of riders who have circumvented the intent of the 250/lites class.

He's just playing by their rules. Nothing wrong with that. It use to be an honor to move up to the big bikes. When I was racing I couldn't wait to get on a open bike. Hansen is one tough SOB to ride with a hand that messed up. Change the rules or it will continue forever.

The intent of the Lites class? LOL

The series (E & W SX 125 class) was originally for the privateers, less travel expense ect...
With larger teams (with huge budgets) like PC & Geico involved in the series still to this day and pretty much dominating it,
it really doesn't serve a purpose to have the series split into 2 in this day & age.
And really back in the day .....if you look at all the riders who ever won a 125/Lites championship, pretty much all of them were
factory/satellite factory supported guys, all the way back to 1985.So the true intent of the class was never even really there ,even in the box van days and it is definitely not there in the big rig days.

If they would get rid of the East & West and have 1 Lites series with 20 lap mains and get rid of the pointing out system.
Basically treat it as they treat the Lites class outdoors,no one would have any reason to bitch.

The SX series is professional racing at the top of the sport.
You should have to race who ever lines up,whether they are 10 year lites bike specialists vets,or first year pro blitzing fast wild rookies.

With a great AX series, that should be the learning series, stepping stone...

It's a pro class
He's a pro rider
Pro riders should be able to race pro classes, whichever one they choose

If you're going to boot pro riders out of a pro class, like in amateur racing, don't call it a pro class, because all pro riders aren't eligible.

Hansen is gonna need another year to win the title anyways. He cant ride 100% even after that long of a lay off. He will be lucky to finish 2nd in points.

I think Hanny has one year left by these rules. In 2008 he didn't score enough points and I don't think he raced for a few years before that. It is nice to know there actually are rules that preclude someone from just sitting there forever. You basically get 3 years of being competitive. Sipes missed several years due to injury.

From the AMA SX rulebook:
d. Effective with the 2007 season points, riders earning at least
135 Supercross Lites Championship points in an nine-race
season, 120 Supercross Lites Championship points in an
eight-race season, or 105 Supercross Lites Championship
points in a seven-race season, in three seasons of Supercross
Lites competition will be ineligible for the Supercross Lites
class.
1. If the number of events in each of the Supercross Lites class
regions is different, the number of events used for points will
be based on the smaller number. (i.e. if there are eight West
events and seven East events, the West riders would throw
out their worst finish for a maximum total of seven events)

e. AMA Supercross Lites Regional Champions may defend their
championship’s the following season, with the following
clarifications:
1. Champions may ride either region the following year but
must only compete with the no. 1 plate when defending in
the region in which they won the Championship.

2. A rider that wins a Supercross Lites Championship will be
eligible to participate in the Supercross Lites class for a
maximum of three years total regardless of what year he/she
won the title. (i.e. if a rider wins the Championship in their
third year of Supercross Lites competition, they will be
ineligible for the Supercross Lites class regardless of points
and therefore not eligible to defend their Supercross Lites
Championship title)

3. After a rider wins a second Championship, in either region,
the rider will be ineligible for the Supercross Lites class,
regardless of points or number of years in class.

I think I remember Matthes saying that if Hanny wins he has to move up, but if he doesn't he has another year.

I don't think that is correct. I could be way off but as I understand it, if he wins it, he gets an extra year to defend it. If not, he has to move up.

Hanny should move up next year and get a ride on the HH team again, that would be the perfect fit for him...kawi,sx only, pro circuit, and hes real good freinds with carey. he would do really well in the premier class, he wouldn't have all this pressure on him and would easily get top 10's and have some good battles for top 5.

I think the change that occurred was the "3 consecutive seasons" for earing the required amount of points to point out. This year the rule reads "3 seasons". This rule seems to change every year based on which team wants it altered to keep one of their guys eligible.

I agree with this. There are disadvantages to getting older too.
